All these lucky people with 19C houses and no heating. All my rooms with no heating on have dropped to at least 11C and lower6

Nowhere near needing heating yet, room temp is 17C.
Possibly would come on if room tempo approaches 10C. But room temp only gets that low on days of snow which is rare.0 -
Had my kitchen storage heater on full input for the last few days and it has struggled to hit 17C on cloudy days and cooler nights. Only have the bedroom one on the very minimum setting to keep the temps between 14 and 15C. I'm living out of the kitchen at the moment and the rest of the house is staying off until it gets cold.0

Still switched off here but have lit the log burner a couple of times. When the heating gets switched on it'll be set to 18 degrees as it was last year and I'll tweak it up on occasions if I feel that it needs is.0

As I'm making effort to reduce the target temperature from 19C to 18C, I noticed I often feel warm enough at 17-17.5C now. It's really cool how the human body gets cold adapted so quickly. I'm excited for the 22nd of November as that's my meter reading say and I'll be able to compare to last year's usage and see how much gas I've saved this year.0

Today in my part of Wiltshire the living room temperature dropped to 17.4 without heating, but because it was a damp miserable day it felt colder than usual. I lit the log burner at 4.30 just to cheer myself up and try and dry some washing. The last log of the evening has just gone on and the temperature is a steady 21 degrees (allowing some heat to escape into the hall and bedrooms otherwise it would be about 23/24 which is far too hot!).
I am at home all day but can usually manage without heat by keeping busy or using a fleece and a hot water bottle if sitting still for a while. I have a good wardrobe of fleeces and underlayers for playing winter tennis and these are also good to wear indoors on colder days without being too bulky. Psychologically, I find that similar temperatures on sunny days feel warmer than on rainy days and I can bear the cold a little better.
However, if it gets too cold my nose and fingers start to hurt and thats when I need to turn on the heating. Must be an age thing as this never used to bother me when I was younger.....

No matter how much I layer up anything less that 13C indoors feels miserable to me. I hate that cold feeling on your face as you walk into a cold room. Funny that I don't get the same feeling when I go outside. Must be psychological.1

SensibleSarah said:I'm not even close to putting the central heating on yet. To be fair, I do this every year - not just this time around because of energy prices. I usually end up putting it on for a couple of hours in the evenings from around mid-Nov and longer on the really cold days, but we'll see.
Friday morning was cold! Had to de-ice the car at 6am which was surprising with it having been so mild recently. I head straight out with dogs in the mornings and the exercise means I'm kept fairly warm until I get back home so having the heating on when I get up just doesn't really make any sense. I work from home but last year hot water bottles did the trick most of the winter and this year I have the luxury of a heated electric throw to wrap around me as I work, which I have started to use during the morning and don't need by the afternoon. I'm going to see how long I can keep going with just that, but all bets are off if it snows or if I get ill. I'm absolutely not envisioning that I'll keep the heating off totally, but just aiming to delay it for as long as I can without being miserable.
My new target now is December 1 st to switch the central heating on .
My main room is 14 c unheated and feels fine .Apart from a couple of blasts of 30 mins of a 400 watt halogen electric fire the longer I can last out would mean I can budget ok for much higher gas prices and stick to my direct debit0 -
I can literally count the pennies with every whir of the ASHP but the dog has stopped shivering and the Mrs toes have returned to a normal colour lol.
Over our base usage including washing/Tumbledryer/dishwasher/seperate garage gym that needs heating and cooking to keep the house at a barmy 19oC 24 hours a day and the living room at 20oc we are currently using 10kwh.
Worth it for us being here both working from home and the dog is happy.0 -
