My heating is always set to come on through the day if it drops below 16 degrees.  For the last week, once or twice a day I have boosted for an hour to 18. Luckily being in a new build it retains that heat for a few hours. This morning there was ice on the pavements!

We only have a log burner & not very generous neighbours but still toasty warm here, it's been on & off since mid Oct although we wouldn;t have been burning so much if it wasn't for free wood, it does help keep the leccy bill down to 2.8kWh / day though.

I think I’ll have to check my insulation - heating has kicked on and off for a couple of weeks now with thermostat set at 16.5C

I don’t think internal temperature has been at the 19/20C people here are reporting for a month or so - and I’m in Yorkshire so not the arctic or anything.

My heating has been kicking in for about a week now but only for roughly 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening using around 10-12kWh a day.
Not so, the one I posted above on this page was the morning of 08/11/22, the glow-egg thing in the corner of the kids room read 19.9 at 07:30am - it's a 1970s semi-d with a log burner downstairs that wasn't in use (it was 07:30am afterall). It's reading 16.1 right now. This is fairly central essex. It has just been unnaturally mild up to now.

It's getting to the time of year when it might be best to put the IHD in a drawer and not look at it. 😉

    It's a bit 😲😲😲

Especially If you're confident your estimated annual usage, and DD are set correctly...stop looking at it!!

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

It stopped working a couple of years ago. The Bright app updates once a day by the looks of it, that's plenty

Had the log burner been used in the previous few days (and warmed the fabric of house itself), or not been used at all this season?

Agreed, it has been very mild for October. In the past, my central heating would have been running from the end of September or early October. This year, I've manually fired up the CH a couple of times in the evening, and it was only this morning that it came on automatically (4°C outside at 07:00).

Just had to put it on for the first time.  It was 16 degrees and watching the World Cup with two throws and a fleece on was still too cold.  Put the stat for 18 degrees.  Not looking forward to that meter ticking over!
