Heating is still off, just closed the windows as it was getting a little chilly.
Not doing it to save money, just don't need the heating on yet. Looking at last year's bills it did go on in November.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
The Nest is set for 20°C in the lounge when there's someone in the house, the 'set back' temp is 15°C when no-one is home and during the night.
'Smart' TRV are set to 20°C in bedrooms first thing and when turning in.

Heating has been on fir about 30 mins each in the morning & evening for the past 2 weeks, for me. Last couple of days have gotten decidedly colder, esp when it’s dark. Heating set to 18c & is being used. I’m paying the £66 rebate from BG straight back to them so I can use the heating when it’s cold.Boiler radiator temp has been turned down to 65c so it condenses more on the return, that’s good enough to get the house warmed up now. I’m layering up & ordered some thermal leggings & warm wool socks for the really cold days. & fingerless gloves - these are all for working from home. The really freezing days to come, 65c on the boiler wont be high enough so I’ll raise it to 75c those days/weeks. The teddy fleece blanket has come in from the camper for the evenings, too.0

One reason for us turning our heating on is we have an air source heat pump and I want to give it 3-4 days to start putting the base heat back in the fabric of the house.
Another reason is these upcoming (reduce usage hours) might as well have our history of base usage going from now.

No. I'm going to try to hold off until December! It's set to get milder next week and that should see it set until mid November. Who knows for the rest of the month.
The plan is to save the costs for when the cold really bites and the heating is needed to stop the pipes from freezing3 -
Heating been on since mid October, digital room stat set to 17 degrees daytime and 15 at night, flow temperature on boiler at 35, so far relatively comfortable.Hot water topped up in tank via immersion at Octopus Go 7.5p night time rate, so will adjust upwards boiler flow temperature as weather gets colder.0

Yep - the house at 16c yesterday morning and the thermostat kicked the heating in at 7am. However, it wasn't on long, the thermostat is at 18c (but I think the dial is not quite accurate by a degree or two) and it went off about 45 mins later. It came back on about 5ish last night for an hour or two.0

last winter set mine at 18c, two hours in morning, two hours in evening. The red heating button on the danfoss timer in the airing cupboard that swipes through "on, auto and off" has died though through so many clicks over the years so it's stuck on auto (could be worse it could be stuck on off!) so the stat is set at 14c, so the heating doesn't come on when the hot water does. Was tempted for the first time to stick it on this morning as it's below 18c for the first time in months but typing this in a big dressing gown so will try and hold out for a little longer. Awful isn't it when you are terrified to put the heating on!
On a side note I tried the dishwasher on the eco setting last night for a second time and finally confirmed it uses more electricity than the regular setting. 4 kwh used overnight compared to 2 on a normal setting. Bizarre.1 -
eco on our washing machine if fine even for sports kits (but the short 'refresh' wash uses less energy and works better for a lot of our things that have only been lightly worn). but the eco mode on the dishwasher is useless for anything other than crumbs and the odd butter smeer. i think the manual says it uses less energy but if we have to run it twice or really wash the plates first not just scrape them off then whats the point?Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.1 -
It's been on since September when temperature in the living room, office and bedroom started to go down to 16.5C. This morning I woke up to it being 14C just because I had the heating off during the night 🥶 I'm in London in a solid wall house that seem to lose heat pretty quickly0
