If you have the account numbers, then the account is open and you can safely refer.

Mine is a Schrodinger's account then. :) It was open and not open at the same time, until I rang them up to find out.

Hi I have looked through this thread so apologies if I missed it but I'm trying to work out at what point I can fill in the friend referral form. My husband is referring me as he has an account already. I have opened an account, registered for online banking and have received my debit card but not yet the pin. When I applied via switching service they gave me a date of 8th March. Im switching from Nationwide but have heard nothing from them as yet. Is it too early to fill in the form as the switch has not gone through yet?

forgot to mention, i will be referring my daughter once I'm properly sorted [and if offer is still available] but didn't want to start that ball rolling just yet.

Complete referral form as soon as get account details through the post being as that is what it now says to do on referral claim form.

  • just been referred to coop by my daughter and was keen to take advantage of the referral offer but, having read the t and c's,i note that Smile accounts are excluded from the offer itself, which i was aware of. However, I do have an old dormant Smile account and one of the additional terms and terms and conditions, says, must not hold "any coop a/c"  (not have held) which i assume includes "smile"   Opinions welcome about my eligibility for the referral if I close my existing Smile account and then apply for a new eligible a/c.  What do we reckon guys?

IIRC (read the thread), the T&C are ambiguous and many people that closed their Coop accounts before re-applying were rejected with the bonus. If so, closing your Smile account changes nothing - you are either eligible for the bonus or not.
I received the bonus and I did have Smile account in the past, but switched it long time ago, more than 3 years.

I've referred people who have open Smile accounts and we both got the bonus.

Having a Smile account does not make you ineligible. If it did it would say so explicitly.
There's absolutely no point in closing the Smile account first. Just open a Coop one.

  • My friend switched to Co-op bank last week. Could I benefit from this offer by opening an account today and referring them? Would it look weird if the Referrer's account is newer than the Recommend friend's account? TIA
