  • Hi, I've recently referred a friend, they now have their Co-op current account up and running but are still waiting on their switch to complete. Could my friend safely start referring others or should they wait until their switch and our referral completes?

There seems to be nothing in the 'Terms and Conditions' preventing them from doing now they have an account but I was wondering if they do whether it'd cause any issues with my/our referral.

    Thanks for any help, clarification.

As long as the account is open, the holder can refer. Specifically, this means their account must be up and running before their referred friends apply.

Does anyone know if it will be safe to switch and get the referral by switching from a Starling bank account that was only opened 2 weeks ago? Any potential pitfalls? Also do you need to input the card details of the bank you are switching from or just the sortcode and account number? Thanks

You can do that! Starling won't let you open another account with them for 6-12 months after doing this mind. You can state to Co-Op you don't have a card, but seen as Starling give you the details in the app I'd just put them in :)

Don't tell Co-op you don't have a card unless you actually don't have a valid debit card.

Your losing bank will block the request and it'll just delay things. If you can get the details out of the app, do that. If you can't then request a new card before requesting a switch.
  • OK how does this work if one doesn't have any friends with a Co Op account?

It doesn't unless you can find a friend who is prepared to open a Co-op account and refer you or vice versa.

Friends for the purpose of referral may be made at other websites which I'm not sure if I can mention?
  • How soon after making an account can one refer someone?

As soon as you know the account is open - the best way to be sure is to wait for either a letter or email from the bank which shows your sort code and account number.
