Does anyone know if it will be safe to switch and get the referral by switching from a Starling bank account that was only opened 2 weeks ago? Any potential pitfalls? Also do you need to input the card details of the bank you are switching from or just the sortcode and account number? Thanks
You can do that! Starling won't let you open another account with them for 6-12 months after doing this mind. You can state to Co-Op you don't have a card, but seen as Starling give you the details in the app I'd just put them in :)

Don't tell Co-op you don't have a card unless you actually don't have a valid debit card.

Your losing bank will block the request and it'll just delay things. If you can get the details out of the app, do that. If you can't then request a new card before requesting a switch.
Is it better to not then complete the application until the debit card comes through, even if I have the account and sortcode numbers?

If you have the account numbers, then the account is open and you can safely refer.

Debit card is not needed but if you have received that then the account is definitely open.

The problem with this offer is that most of us don't know anyone with a Co-operative Bank account! I'd open an account with them if I had a friend who could refer me.

I don't knowingly know anyone with an account either (wasn't whether to reach out on social media) but wondered if I opened one now could I then refer a friend straightaway or has someone already clocked the terms on this?  (Edit - doh, just realised this would mean missing out on being initially referred myself but guess it's the only option if I don't know anyone)

Have managed to open this new account, thanks to a referral.

First annoyance: debit card activation appears to require a call centre call, sitting in a queue at the moment. Surely it should be electronic activation via the app, or similar….

The card does not need activating for use in person. You only need to call them if you want to use it for CNP (cardholder not present) transactions.

Mine is a Schrodinger's account then. :) It was open and not open at the same time, until I rang them up to find out. I received a welcoming email on the day of application, confirming that I've been approved. Then received a welcoming letter with my account details, saying my account was now open, but still couldn't register for online banking. They told me over the phone that the account is not open yet.

Was answer by phone correct being as previous online banking customers have no need to register for online banking,

Myself and others having been previous customers got error message when trying to re-register for online banking, by chance we found were able to login with original credentials.

Yes, they said not open yet and that I need to wait.

I found out earlier today that I can log in with my previous details.
