Please do go through her finances.  When I needed to go through my mothers I was quite frankly gobsmacked at things she had been donating & also paying for.  I managed to get her out of some sort of replacement DG window scam "if it went" which had cost her more than the replacement would actually cost.  Frankly it is terrifying what some sales people will scare people into.  More worrying for me than for you obviously as I am approaching the age at which she got "done".  They must have been worried because it was a few years after she had paid them & they still refunded the money.  I was just so relieved that I didn't have a real battle that I let it go at that but later & still now over 10 years on I still wonder if for other peoples sake I shouldn't have pushed it.
Really hope it isn't covid.  I mean enough is really enough, you really don't need that.

Mum has everything insured. And I was wondering about that. The thing is it is SO easy to get someone to come and look at the washing machine or the boiler or the dishwasher..........I have booked them for the Easter holidays. Do you think they are worth it? I really don't know.
    Nevertheless she persisted.

I've never bothered with insuring puchases, except of course the house & car.  Mostly if they last through the warranty period then they will last for years & if they are insured & pack in after many years then they just tell you they are irreparable anyway & you are stuck having paid for years.  Personally I think if you save what the insurance costs then it will pay for a new one & I would rather it was in my bank than theirs.  Not everyone agrees with me, nothing new there then.  But how long have these been going on & how old are the appliances.  I would pretty much bet though that any insurance you stop today will mean the appliance stops tomorrow!!

They replaced the microwave twice and the dishwasher once. I don't know if that still holds tho. I don't think I would insure stuff, the dishwasher is not going great at the moment. I think I shall get them all looked at and see what the terms are.
    Nevertheless she persisted.

You have obviously needed the insurance.  My dishwaher & washing machine TVs freezer etc are all over 10 years old, with some being over 20 & have never broken, so basically it is all in the eye of the beholder or something.  Even my cheapo microwave lasted over 10 & I used it at least once a day.  So this experience colours my attitudes, which is why I said not everyone agrees.
  • Microwaves start at £55 on Argos.

    How much is the insurance?
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.
  • Oh I know - I think this microwave isn't insured, it was too expensive post the last "free" replacement and I do understand it is cheaper to replace. Like I say I will do one last check on the dishwasher and washing machine since they would be the worst things to lose and we may need the dishwasher fixed one last time and then review.
    Nevertheless she persisted.

That is awful, now you know about that, it could be worth going through any extra benefits that may be payable due to the care fees. I know you will have done that before, but at that level it is worth seeing if there is more you or your mother can claim.
