Make sure that they are giving her enough to drink. By that I do not mean just putting it on the bedside table out of her reach. Also make sure she is being toileted regularly. It was years before the current crisis in care & my mother at 86 went in with a broken hip having been looking after herself & came out 2 weeks later not remembering how to make a cup of tea & needing permanent pads. We were sure the much increased dementia was due to dehydration. Sorry to worry you but if you are aware you can make sure that whilst you or other family members are visiting you can keep pushing liquids into her. I wish we had known then what we know now. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

So sorry to hear this Buffy.
My Dad has just come home after being in hospital for 5 weeks - whilst the care of the doctors & nurses was brilliant, the food was, quite frankly, not fit for purpose. Ask for a dietician to see her & prescribe Fortisip drinks for her to have in addition to the normal meals (these are all in one nutritional drinks) - in the meantime, buy some Huel drinks (similar to Fortisip). This will ensure she is getting plenty of protein to help slow down the loss of muscle mass due to inactivity.
We also made up a flask of tea each day to take in so he always had a hot drink.
Dad also complained of being constantly cold (hospital seemed cool) & not enough blankets available so ensure your Mum has plenty of cardigans & maybe take a blanket in.
Most importantly, insist on talking to the consultant to discuss what will happen & also what support will be required when they discharge her. If you only have a bathroom upstairs, they will want to make sure she is safe on the stairs before coming home - the physio team will need to approve her discharge.
Also, make sure you look after you. Visiting a relative in hospital is stressful and tiring, especially when the main responsibility for this falls on you xx5 -

Sorry to hear about your mum. 😡I’m sorry that work aren’t being supportive…..I’m not sure, but do you have rights because you’re a carer…..I seem to remember a colleague of mine telling me this.
I hope she is on the mend soon. Take care of yourself and most of all remember the fall would have happened whether you’d have been in the house or out of the house….it’s life and older people can be prone to falls. Your friends sound wonderful getting you back to her quickly 👍👍👍January spends - £587.583 -
Mum is doing ok, everything you have said I had covered apart from the drinks because she refuses them. I didn't go today, I felt bad but had so much to do.
Not that I have done it. I am too stressed, I can't keep going I can't get going, I can't bear the idea of waking up tomorrow and having to do all this again. I can't tidy up, there is too much stuff.
I am not happy. Overwhelmed. Perhaps in shock. need sleep. Going to eat chocolate and pray for a better day.
Nevertheless she persisted.6 -
