Is there a way to stop smart readings being collected? I have asked Eonnext to stop using them, as they are wrong (too low)
I know why they're wrong. I've explained it to them. They sent an engineer to fix it, which I had to take a day off for, a few months ago. He just said there was nothing he could do. But he got them to stop using the readings, so all was good. I sent in a reading once a month. Then a few weeks ago, they started using them again.
Is there anything I can do to make it impossible for them to read it remotely? So that I can just continue sending in accurate readings.

Wrap the comms hub (the bit on top of your electricity meter) in kitchen foil.eastcorkram said:Is there a way to stop smart readings being collected? I have asked Eonnext to stop using them, as they are wrong (too low)

Write (snailmail) a 'complaint' to Complaints detailing exactly the circumstances and obviously keep a copy. That way there is a formal record - mention the engineer visit and the outcome....1

I am sorry but your post makes no sense. There is no way that a supplier can pull incorrect readings from a smart meter. The readings are what they are: readings. Are the readings showing on your bill annotated with an ‘S’ for smart or an ‘E’ for estimated. If it is the latter, then it may be an issue with the communications hub.eastcorkram said:Is there a way to stop smart readings being collected? I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the problem is with the OP wanting to report "Total import" but EON Next using R01 or R02 instead.

This is what happens.
We used to be on E7 , so therefore, there are day and night readings. We had a full rewire, got rid of storage heaters in 2020. Since then we've been on a single rate . But........the meter has three readings. Night, day,, both at the same price, and total.
The reading I submit is the total. I don't need to add the two together, as the meter shows the total figure .
But......the smart readings are always the day figure.
So if I submit a reading today, and let's say it's 2150. Great, the site uses this, and creates an up to date statement.
Then a smart reading will be taken AFTER that, and it would be something like 1876. So.....a new statement is created because they think we've used way less, and the money gets put onto the credit balance.
So, now you know, the wrong reading can be taken.0 -

I wished you worked for Eonnext!1 -

If that middle part is true, then Eonnext certainly don't know how to do it. The engineer visit was their idea. Which as you rightly say, was a waste of everyone's time.MWT said:eastcorkram said:So, now you know, the wrong reading can be taken. It isn't the wrong reading, but if the meter is still separately recording day and night use in two registers then it is potentially a wrongly configured meter. The engineer visit was a waste of time as this is not something that requires a visit, it is all capable of being remotely reconfigured...These problems do often occur when people switch providers with an E7 configured meter and give the 'Total Import' reading instead of the two day/night registers as the transfer reading...
I'm not even bothered about them re configuring it. I'm perfectly happy sending in readings, but just want them to stop overruling them with lower ones0 -
Smart meters have 4 registers. The total index reading is the total of the 4 individual registers. You should not submit the total reading if the meter has reverted from R1 and R2 to just R1. The R2 readings do not disappear just because the supplier is using just one register for billing. For example, if R1 was 01000 and R2 was 01800 then the total index reading is 02800. On the tariff transfer to single rate, the supplier will normally bill against the single register in use. If this is R1, then the start reading is 01000 with units accruing from that figure onwards. This is just a billing error.
It is also an ‘elephant trap’ when switching suppliers. If transfer readings are requested, the consumer should pass all 4 register indexes if they have been used in the past.1 -
So you're saying they are correct in using the lower figure?
If I just stop sending in readings, the lower figure is all that will get used. That's fine by me. I'll probably be about £2,000 in credit.
I'm not convinced that's right though.
Eonnext have never suggested that what you're saying is correct, and neither did the engineer.
Incidentally, there was a meter reader here about a month ago. I wasn't in, but my wife was. He read the meter. That reading has never shown up on the meter reading history. All the readings on there are either marked S or C.0
