Freecycle. They said please so they got the item.

Anything free or nearly free. Cardew, will always be abused.
Take my local Lidl's, everytime they have a massive fruit and veg discount day, the early birds in the queue are all Chinese, aint that odd.
Better still take the NHS.0 -
I recently put something on Freecycle, it wasn't anything fantastic but I dont want to throw them in the bin, I got 1 reply but wasn't exactly pleased with it, although they did say please and thank you in a fashion, it just wasn't convincing enough for me so they went to the charity shop instead.
"can i have tem plz? ta!"
There have been so many people asking for things lately in my area and ive been reading them all and only a few even say please and thank you and some are asking for big things too.
I will continue to use Freecycle but I am getting very picky about who gets my items. One woman travelled 13 miles on public transport for one of my items, its people like her who I am happy to give my items to, its just a shame she had to go so far.0 -
There was a guy in my local freecycle who recently posted an offer of a Nintendo Wii, unwanted competition win. I emailed him to say i wasn't looking to recieve the item, but advised him that he should donate it to a local charity to raffle or a chaity shop to sell at a realistic price. I told him he'd never find a truly deserving person for such a sought after item and would be inundated with chancers! Which he was, he posted saying he had 250 replies so couldn't decide. and donated it to a charity.
That, in my opinion should never have got past the moderators.... i had my doubts it was even genuine at the time, to be honest!!
I have had mixed experiences with Freecycle... i do think people are a bit ungrateful at times, but at the end of the day if it gets it off your hands then what's the harm....?I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Great, must cheer you on no end and next time you have something to give, you'll probably think twice.I would.
I'd definately contact the person through ebay and say you're aware they are selling it and this wasn't the intention of you giving the woman the table and chairs.....otherwise you'd have put them on ebay yourself.
So hands on heart how many of you would take the trouble to ebay some thing that big . Personally if I freecycled some thing it would be A: keeping it out of land fill and b: so the council will not charge for the privilege . If someone has some thing of mine and then puts it on ebay ,fair play to them . Surely if an item was saleable you would sell it yourself . if you dont then why moan ??0 -

How exactly is turning up early for a discount day 'abusing' it???
Maybe the Chinese people have the good sense to stock up on healthy fruit and veg - but of course thats different from all the people who queue from 4am for bloody next sales!!0 -

The Chinese are the local restaurant (take away)owners. Being traders should they be allowed to plunder.0 -

I can understand that stance, even though I do not share your view.
My group bans any reselling of goods, and many have similar restrictions.
So undeclared traders, by definition, are deceiving us. Apart from that they are all 'take' and no 'give'.
If the traders were 'up front' that they were going to re-sell - that is fine. They would be bottom of my list though! If nobody else was interested I would give them the item.
If people shared your view(fair play etc) then why don't traders simply declare that they intend to re-sell? None of them ever do, and so resort to subterfuge to obtain our goods
I suggest the reason traders don't declare themselves is because they know the vast majority do not want traders to have their goods.
To me, these people are beneath contempt!0 -
Our group requests/requires that traders state up front that they will be selling on.
We don't actually ban traders unless they are being deceptive.
Our reasoning is based on the premise that wherever/however an item goes - it is staying out of landfill.
What we do insist on is that people are given enough information (i.e. selling on) to help them make an informed choice about who to pass their item onto.
Some people feel strongly about not making money for others and gifting their item to someone who is genuinely in need of it - others really don't care where it goes just so long as it's gone.
So for us it's deception about selling, not selling per-se.

Traders are allowed in Lidl ,E-bay(and other places) yet not in Freecycle. And in the year of Freecycling that I did, never was asked by the owner, moderator or giver about trading," was I a trader, are you going to make a profit orf me"....as far as I could see people were grateful to have the heavy furniture away.
If peeps don't want a trader to make a profit , then sell it yourself. My thought is that most people don't have a clue how to sell, or can't face the rejections or the hassle of knowing where to sell , the transport etc.
My knowledge comes from auctions halls, where traders are welcomed by the auctioneers, who recognize they provide a useful service in getting rid of the dross and keeping halls clear.
There appears to be no feedback to the owners of Freecycle groups about un-accepted stuff, so not the full story.
And the thought of people travelling miles to collect small items not worth the petrol, beggars belief.
What every poster here , especially Moneysavingsexperts need to do is get something free or cheap and sell it at the market price. End of story.0
