Freecycle. They said please so they got the item.

Just seen on my freecycle emails. That out of 64 people who responded, only one of them actually said "Please" so the mailer gave the item to them. What has happened to basic good manners??

I offered something the other day and a woman emailed almost instantly. I told her she could have the item if she could collect asap. I left contact details and she replied telling me to ring her. Cheek! I am the one offering and I have to phone her. No way. Item is now in my garage.
We were brought up to use manners and they are still instilled into me to this day, so much so that my kids are polite and use manners and people often comment on this.I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0 -
I gave away some voucher codes on here once, and I gav them to the person who sent the nicest PM
The first person just said "I'll have it" so they didn't get it

Good manners are just not taught in schools any more or in homes either for that matter. Those of us over 30 were taught to be polite & respect our elders, those ideas have sadly gone out the window with most of this generation of little sh1ts. There are some pockets of politeness still around but they get smaller every year.Winnings

I am moderator of a Freecycle group and find that the people who reply within seconds are usually the ones who are bootsalers or selling on via ebay, etc. We have a few of these in our group and even though we cannot tell members who they are, we suggest the offerer allows 24 hours before CHOOSING who they want the items to go too. It shouldnt be "fastest finger first".
I agree that morals & politness are in decline BUT its not just under 30's. The 3 biggest scammers on our freecycle are 37, 58 and over 60. First one sells on to local people, 2nd & 3rd are ebayers and bootsellers! I have also caught them out in lies.0 -

Why don't you name and shame them?0 -
I bet the ebayers and car booters lie as well. For example, they'll reply saying please and thanks, as they know this will get them the item. They'll also have a daughter with 3 kids who has moved in a house and has nothing and no money etc etc.0

Well, I posted a not completely intact printer the other day and got an instant response which didn't immediately endear me to him, although he did say please, but no-one else expressed interest so I went back and saw what else he'd posted, both offers and wants. Decided it was his style rather than his manners, IYSWIM, and he picked it up as arranged at the weekend.Signature removed for peace of mind0

My freecycle group offers some items and it states in email that it doesnt automatically go to first person0

on my freecycle they suggest you have a cooling off period before you let someone have it...also if you get caught being an ebayer or bootsalers you are kicked off...needless to say we only have about 500 members in afew towns and villages...:D

I always say please, and as others do, only choose to give to those who say it too!
I do often give a little back ground info, just to say what it'll be used for, who will benefit, and again, I tend to prefer to have alittle background info too.
However, it's not sob stories, nor emotional blackmail, simply that I think all freecyclers would prefer items to go to the 'worthiest' respondant.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0
