I had problems collecting a Freecycle item (a door) as I don't drive and the person who was going to collect it let me down. I emailed the owner and told him -and said it wasn't fair to make him wait as he had others interested so to please let them have it. He replied saying I sounded like I really needed it (I did) so he would deliver it to me -which he did and refused to accept any petrol money.
That's the true spirit of Freecycle.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Seeing these again and again makes me think Freecycle is a bad thing, promoting greed and begging.Wanted Please Laptop
Hi To All
I am currently on the lookout for a laptop that will helpme with work,
I do require to get on the internet, so something of a reasonable speed
would be great.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this
Kind RegardsPlease would some body consider me for any 1/2 decent laptop or
computer.I know they
do get offered fairly often on freecycle but i'm always either too
late or never lucky to get picked as I am currently using my freinds
copmuer to do my course work but its difficult with looking after my
too childrenan and im struggling to cope now. I
think my freinds computer is on its last legs as it take ages to load
a page so anything
would be gratefully recieved and well used as im also doing a course
on child care
Thank you for reading this
lisaI have just lost my car (a darling old skip of a skoda), and am now looking for
another one!
Anything will do, obvioously if it was free that would be amazing, but if
anyone knows of where there is a cheap one for sale and can advise me of its
location that would also be great!
Cheers
Claire
The last one I find most silly. It seems that she didn't care for the old car or get it serviced, so why should anyone want to give her a car, even if they happen to have one destined for the scrap.0 -
you are not allowed to ask for money for item on my freecycle and if you do and the other member reports you then you get booted off...which is a good thing really...it has amazed me to think that someone actually asked for a car...quite amazing to think that someone might actually be silly enough to offer one as well...we have strict rules and most members keep to them if someone doesn't we don't see that person again...I am going to be putting quite alot of stuff on after christmas as my mum passed away 2 years ago now and I had the pleasure of clearing her house so kept almost everything...but really do need to thin it all out abit now...I feel I can now let things go I will of course take some around the many charity shops we have....but I'll post on my freecycle and see if anyone is interested in anything if not a local charity for people who don't have much furniture and stuff...:D
Pls be nice to all MSer's
There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.
Tomorrow never come's as today is yesterday and tomorrow is today
MERRY CHRISTMAS FELLOW MSer's:xmastree:0 -
I only reply to emails if i actually want the stuff offered, and sometimes i answer as soon as the email is posted. This doesn't make me a ebayer or a booter does it?just passing through.... Nothing to see....0

larmy - the lack of manners is a pet gripe of mine which I've mentioned on other Freecycle threads. By the way, I saw that message too so we must be neighbours
I've been very active on the local Freecycle group - given away probably about 50 things since the summer and been lucky enough to receive a handful of nice items too, which are all getting good use.
I've just set myself to "no email" for a while though. I've been given the runaround by a few people lately and I need a break...0 -
It gets me when people post on for something and can't even be bothered to say please. How do they expect to receive what they are after if they can't be bothered to do this?!0

It depends how you use freecycle. I think freecycle is an excellent way to get rid of what I consider junk but may be of use to someone else. I personally ignore all requests, I never even look at them. I look at what people have to offer and I offer stuff.
Part of the problem is the myth that people put up adverts for laptops and they get them. This makes other people put up adverts for them expecting to get one, then others do it and so on. If the group is moderated correctly, most posts should be offers not requests.0 -
I personally have no problem with wanted ads. In fact I have placed a few myself for stuff that could be of use to me and others may simply have but forgotten about.
My group insists that ads start with the terms Offered, Wanted, received or taken.
So I put Wanted Please if I am asking for something.
There is one person around my parts who I'm sure is selling stuff she gets. She now gets ignored if she responds, despite her living very close to me. There was a time that she seemed to be responding to every item I offered. She must have got the message as she no longer posts. She NEVER posts a thankyou - probably would give the game away otherwise.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
I have given away to the freecycle members, many things. One thing I've noticed that moderators can be picky when it comes to "givers" offering items, if we don't word it exactly. They waste no time in correcting us.
Yet, when it comes to responding, at times I'm amazed at a couple of things.
The first is when someone emails me before I've moved to my email section.
Another thing, I always say I would like it gone asap or today etc. and I assume they will adhere to this. So after I've accepted their request, past on details of address etc, I then receive an email saying they "hope to be here that day, it depends what time the car is available" or "will be with you tomorrow". I have now learned to tell white lies by saying a neighbour had replied and it has already gone. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
