Hey 'Don't Judge', just so you know when the little green light at the bottom corner turns blue then the poster is offline.

Hope to see you around here tomorrow and any questions fire away, we'll try to answer where we can and point you in the right direction if we can't. Sleep well. xx

The creditability of Freecycle and Ebay was lost for me a long time ago.
Ebay because of the overstated postage and Freecyclers being allowed to pass on fire risk items,i.e. furniture without proper labels and untested electrical appliances.
Time for a level playing field.

I responded to someone recently who was asking for a cd cabinet, explaining that we had some cd racks if they would be of any use. Person emailed back saying they were interested, they were BETTER THAN NOTHING:mad:. Thought this very rude and didn't reply again!

Write back to them and explain that you do live where you say you live and would like to participate, and maybe offer proof of address.

Sorry again and please don't feel i am a bad person because i am not :-) and please don't stop freecycling - the world need's all of us to help (i do give lots of things away too!! and recycle everythingpossible)

This case has been gnawing away at me! So I will just make a couple of statements.

The lady is disabled and “lives off benefits” - her husband is a full time carer and was also injured. Her child is disabled and apparently might die if she doesn’t get medical treatment which the NHS will not provide! So she has to pay ‘lots’ for private treatment.

I am somewhat surprised that someone who is conversant with the Social Security system doesn’t get help for daughter; and I find the suggestion that the NHS would let a child die for lack of treatment frankly preposterous.

An Ebay member let me look at that website. The lady has sold literally hundreds of items on Ebay – nearly all that I have seen are lowish value and look exactly like the items that are offered on Freecycle.

It is also pertinent that the lady has been selling on Ebay since before her 3 year old daughter was born – albeit the frequency has increased since Freecycle was introduced to UK.

Obviously I am a cynic; but everyone can draw their own conclusions!

However the more important issue is that there must be loads of people obtaining goods on Freecycle by deception – by not declaring they are a trader.

I appreciate it doesn’t bother some people that their donated goods are sold(saves it from the tip etc) but it bothers me, and from reading this forum bothers lots of others.
  • I've offered a few things over the weekend and the bad manners of some people is just infuriating!

"Your stuff sounds good - I'll come and get tomorrow, phone me to confirm". Er, no please, thanks, or basic good manners.

    Some people deserve nothing.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

Whenever we use freecycle we always ask for people to state when they can collect and where they are coming from. If the item is quite resellerble eg camera I ask why they want it. Those that don't provide everything automatically are not considered!

That said I would rather the item gets sold than ends up in the tip but would rather it goes straight to a good home.

    Agreed.

However I suggest something that doesn't attract takers when free, is not very likely to attract buyers!

If someone is 'up front' and states they are a trader that is fine, but apparently nobody has ever done so on the groups that are connected to my Freecycle 'owner'.

P.S. I have heard that the Tax man and benefit people show an interest in these traders. If I ever found that somebody had deceived me and sold one of my items, I wouldn't hesitate to 'shop them'!!
