Courier Cost Cutting Feedback/Discussion thread

I'm wanting to arrange for a courier to collect an armchair from the london area and deliver to East Yorkshire. The seller said he'll arrange delivery for £80 but happy for me to get a courier.
Any ideas who I could use to reduce this from £80
Thanks0 -

I forgot to add that the post that has now been removed made it obvious that they do have people watching this thread, and maybe even leaving posts on here.
By the way I think the member may have been kicked out of MSE. they actually sent me a PM, so I tried to reply, but I couldn't.0 -

I would have said Furniture Logistics, but after my recent experience when they damaged a mattress, then said that they don't damage goods, and refused to even give me a claim form, so i'd avoid them.

I thought I would try Direct Parcel Delivery again yesterday for 1 parcel.
PF guy did turn up but with NO tracking no.
He told me that he didn't have one and that you had to book a couple of days in advance to get one direct from him.
DPD now state that they forward the tracking no. on by email so I foolishly thought, okay no problem.
Guess what?
No email, no tracking no. therefore (other than contacting the addressee) no idea if the parcel arrived safe and sound
I will not hand anything over in future if I am not given a tracking no. on the spot!I hope I never get so old I get religious...... Ingmar Bergman0 -

No, I got nothing
If you remember, I posted a couple of weeks ago about the last time I used DPD.
All I got then from the PF driver was a 'sorry we missed you' card with the tracking no. hand written on it and that was only after I had refused to hand over the parcel without a tracking no.
How on earth are you supposed to track a parcel without a tracking no.?I hope I never get so old I get religious...... Ingmar Bergman0 -
it seams to me that ppw have worse feedback on this site than direct parcel delivery o'rly?,ppw use dhl which are a joke 'rolf - 97% next day delivery on a 48hr service', at least direct parcel delivery use parcelforce which are by far the best of a poor bunch 'those two are much of muchness. poor??? yet both still handling millions of parcels a year in a open market' it has to be said, but i fail to see what you what from a parcel delivery company you seem to want a great website 'a DIY site using 'mr site' which costs a few bob' a great booking system'as we can see from the post above. remind me whats the booking cut off time? 12.30? oh wrong company' and it all for nothing '?' , you need to wake up to the real world 'lol' , jake jake jake has double the amount of posts on this website than you 'blow me over he has', and says they are a good company 'yes, excellent observation', yet you are happy criticise a company you have never used 'still not been denied or proved that they have no connections with deals5direct' , a company that at a least £2.00 cheaper than ppw 'for how long?'.
seams to me you need to grow up.......0 -

Sorry to hear, I can image its a right pain in the back side. We had a parcel going to Malta today with TNT, but they didn't show, argh!
Even when we used home-textiles who used parelforce we got paperwork and I thought they were pretty rough round the edges.
I know it seems i promote ppwepress, but there's a reason for that, well two; firstly i was antagonised to and more importantly they're reliable. We send 50-70 a week and we can't afford to have miss collections, booking problems etc. The 12.30 cut off works a treat= customers delighted. You can phone them and contrary to whats been said they're not always engaged and also there manor and helpfulness is improving. A automated email is sent at 6-7pm everyday with a link to the tracking of each parcel. The way it is with DPD, you get a chargeback/non receipt dispute you could lose it all before you even get a tracking number from them.
How many do you send Red? Options apart from above, parceltree (home-textiles)- may not have top notch service but have been around for a while so that's a testament to something, FreightSearch.com (flashy site, key issue for some DPD fans!), but there rates seem pretty good if you've got a bit of volume.0
