yes, I agree and often doubt it's because they have large families - some must surely be buying for a restaurant or take away business. A case in point was one day I happened to be there at mega markdown time in the veg section when I noticed a Chinese couple going about it like a military operation!

Between them they grabbed 15 iceberg lettuces at 5p, all the reduced tomoatoes (about 10 of them at 10p a pack), and I lost count of the number of whole cucumbers they grabbed between them! Even the largest of families couldn't eat all that fresh stuff before it went off and they're not freezable items either

Their trolley was already groaning under the weight of items with yellow labels anyway. They were really aggressive and pushy as well, and constantly interrupting the poor member of staff who was trying to mark down by thrusting items into his face asking for it to be reduced further. Nobody else could get a look in. IMO these sort of 'bargain hunters' should be restricted to number of items or told to go and shop at a trade wholesalers like they really should

Yes I noticed quite a few Oriental people looking int eh reduced bins again the other night and not acting very politely either!

It is unacceptable for people to be rude about it, I agree, but the race or background of people is irrelevant. Why even mention it?

Whether or not they run any kind of takeaway is also irrelevant - so they're Oriental and buying lots of food - oh yes, they must surely run a takeaway!

They are quite entitled to shop in a supermarket as they please. Reduced items are first come first served, subject to availability.

Sure, moan about rude/pushy people, but why does it matter than they are Chinese or Polish or white or black? A rude person is a rude person. Not all Orientals are rude or pushy.

You could make the assumption that all white people complain too much, or are simply too slow/not sharp enough to get the bargains. However, this is clearly not the case.

It is wrong to make judgements upon people based upon their racial appearance. Their behaviour, yes, but their race, no.

It seems that if you even point out a persons race then you are being RACIST, is that it?

The people I happend to see were Asian and Chinese, am I not allowed to state their ethnicity without being criticised?

Also is it racist to ponder about what they did with the stuff? Geesh!!!

It is if it's irrelevant to the point under discussion, and you're mentioning it only to try to whip up a bit more ill feeling towards the person discussed.

After all you don't say "There was this white middle aged Englishwoman shoving me aside" do you?
    Val.

I agree totally valk: i was i n my local a while ago when to young lads were at the next checkout with 3 trollys between them stacked with food .. people in my queue where saying look at them stocking up on the bargains, must ave a restaurant or take away etc. I listened for a while to all the assumptions then had to intervene when it was starting to become racist.. I told them " auctually i know them young lads and they volunteer at weekends at a residential care home for people with disabilities and do the weekly shop for them sometimes if the paid staff are too busy, they usually have a couple of the residents with them"..
    IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!!!:j:money:

Derv, you would cause an argument in a empty house.

My local sainsburys have taken to removing the stock from the shelves and marking it down out the back. The bring it back out again.

Also I have noticed they are not being so generous on some items. I use to often pick up danish pasties for about 20p for two now it is lucky to be half price. It was nice while it lasted.

And there seems to be a group of them who all seem to gather in the same place and chat and spend hours just waiting for the final reduced to clear to come out. And then rush the poor person who is bringing it out.

If it is there and reduced I will take it but I will not wait around for hours on end for it or hassle the poor staff.

    Calley

i can imagine why the items are reduced out the back

I'm a big fan of reductions at Co-op food stores as they go reasonably low, but more importantly the 2 for £5 typ reductions still take the full amount off, as used to happen in the big stores, until sometimes they are paying you to take the stuff away-
Hint- make sure you have something else going through the till first if you think this is likely...:o
