I had such a sweet guy at Tesco today; I picked up a pudding and he offered to reduce it for me; I was not asking or even hinting.0

I watched in amazement last week at a polish guy and how many packs of fresh cream cakes he could carry. He was hassling the poor young lad who was reducing and picking every single bun and cake he reduced. When his arms looked like he was carrying a food version of Jenga at least 4 foot high, his missus turned up with the trolley, was just as rude and abrupt as her rude husband. Their trolley was full of yellow stickers. To say they were rude is an understatement of the year.May £10 a day challenge£19.61/£310Ebay challenge...£12.61/£2000

Shopping in Tesco's on one cold Sunday night. There is the usual gang of reduced finders. There was the first reduction already done, and one women had picked up practically all the fruit & veg. And was waiting for the second reduction, such that she could give the staff member all in her trolley another discount. The shelves were practically emptied in the reduced area, and as such the person who did the reduction had only a few items to reduce to 10-20p. That was it for the day, as the store closes at 4.00pm on a Sunday. But this women had not had her items reduced in her trolly again. She missed the guy who was dealing with the reductions. She may have caught the guy at the very end of the day (3.50pm) to ask for the second reduction. But at the checkout she had none of the fruit & veg. This suggests she left the stuff behind, and wasted, where others would wait and may have picked up. So people are now picking up reduced items the first time, expecting a second reduction. Once the item is in a person's trolly, it is already theirs?
Things now are getting a bit "frantic". There are a number of people who would just pick up every reduction from meat to fruit & veg, and wait for the second reduction. In other words hording.
There are also those who just pick up everything reduced, especially meat, not giving anybody else a chance to look.
I will await the first punch up over a sausage!0 -
Also lookout in Tesco's for reductions that occur in other locations. The Tesco I have visited once had tins of stir fry veg for 5p in its normal location. Also a shelf full of stuff that is not being brought again (discontinued), not dented or broken. Look out for the yellow tickets on ALL shelves.
Sainsbury's has a similar situation to look out for. As regards second reductions at said store, the one I goto is much better, with less hassle, though when the reductions occur is erratic. It is a case of luck when this occurs, and on what. Note for instance, when there is a promotion save on hamburgers, there will be too much stock, and thus expect a lot of hamburgers reduced .
I have been present when whole joints for a £1 or less have occured (usally £6-8), with no one else around.:j0 -
My local sainsburys have taken to removing the stock from the shelves and marking it down out the back. The bring it back out again.
Also I have noticed they are not being so generous on some items. I use to often pick up danish pasties for about 20p for two now it is lucky to be half price. It was nice while it lasted.
And there seems to be a group of them who all seem to gather in the same place and chat and spend hours just waiting for the final reduced to clear to come out. And then rush the poor person who is bringing it out.
If it is there and reduced I will take it but I will not wait around for hours on end for it or hassle the poor staff.

After reading through this thread I don't know if I can be bothered to attempt to get the reduced items.
Seems like a lot of hassle.
Was in Mr Ts the other week and did manage to grab a reduced pack of doughnuts.
It was announced in the store, and I was quite near the bakery section, so quickly moved there.
Picked up a bag, no hassle.
Was very civilised compared to other peoples experiences! If it's not a bargain, it's not worth buying0 -
hi everyone, oh my good god i have the reducing bug it is sooooo addictive, but it gets bad when you start looking at the full price things thinking im not paying that!
me and my bf go most nights- both students in our third year and it is a god send just wish we had found it sooner! can be a bit of a fight tho- we live in a uni town and there are no other students apart from us normally just mature singles. Some of them actually hunt the reducers down and you get the regulars who hoover everything up!
didnt go tonight but last good haul was £70 of meals, cooked finest chicken, chicken breasts, sausage rolls, salad bags oranges and kept us going for a while - also get some for an agrophobic pensioner a few doors down and he always likes to rummage and see what we have bought him!keep calm and carry on :rotfl:

it wasnt a sausageand wasnt quite a punch up
but ....
the reducer was on her knees doing the bottom shelf , reducing and then bringing the items up to a higher shelf, one lady either side decided they both wanted the pizza she had just done but still had in her hand  one pulled one way the other pulled the other way right over the top of the reducers head  she swiftly grabbed the pizza hard and binned it in the rubbish bag next to her, got up and walked away without finishing the reductions:D their faces were a picture :rotfl:
she returned some time later with a manager who passed the reduced items out to anyone showing an interest0 -
I was in the right place at the right time at Asda last night; scallops for 29p (were £4.86), parnsips 20p, massive rhubarb crumble 50p and a whole rotisserie chicken for 99p which will do me for 5 meals at least. Really pleased. I love being able to eat posh food, eg venison and scallops, on such a small budget; it really proves that people who say they can't afford to eat healthily are talking crap. Still working through a 5kg bag of potatoes I got for 10p, and I look forward to my 27p swede.0
