I’ve only just set up DDs on the account that I want to switch to Nationwide, with first payments due to go out on 15th and 27th of Oct.

If I apply to open Nationwide account today, can I put a switch date in the future (e.g. 28th Oct) to make sure the DDs are active before the switch? Had anybody done that, what’s the latest date you can put down for the switch?

IIRC must complete in 60 days from instruction: Terms kindly linked by Zanderman on the first page.

Hi all,  I tried to switch yesterday and again today, I get all the way through and then a message with 'oops something went wrong, please try again'.
Anyone else had this issue, please ?  Have tried on both PC and phone.
    Thanks.

My friend is very keen to switch banks to Nationwide from Halifax but is very worried about a small overdraft facility of £250  she has in place with Halifax.
What happens to that overdraft when her  normal banking gets moved over to Nationwide ? will Halifax close it down or demand it to be repaid ?
We are both absolute beginners in moving bank accounts

IME  o/d has to be cleared before the switch date.
  • My brother-in-law has just opened an account and was going to do the switch after his 2 creditcard dd were claimed in November (as only just set them up on the switching account) but the Nationwide website only allowed for switch to complete the latest of 3rd November. So it would appear that even though the T&C's state 60 days it is only allowing 30 days.
  • Hi all,

I am with Barclays, never switched before but the Nationwide offer is very tempting.  If I switched would my Barclays account be closed ? Just wondering if I could open a Nationwide account but then transfer money back into my Barclays account to save changing my details every where.  I could leave a couple of DDs to qualify.  Many thanks

Without reading the Ts and Cs, and from previous account switching, your Barclays account will be closed and all the payees, DDs etc. will be transferred by the switching service to qualify for the £200.
Is there enough time to open a sacrificial account to switch then set up DDs in that.

Same problem for me... I tried twice this morning, got all the way to the credit check then: "Oops, something went wrong, please try again".
  • Hi All, I wonder if someone can advise. Yesterday I switched my wife and I joint account from first direct to Nationwide, just waiting for it all to go through but seems quite smooth.
However we are both looking at changing our sole current accounts, are we able to do this? and can we both do this with Nationwide?
    Any guidance is appreciated

You request it and maybe you screw up (eg overdrawn at switch start date, tried to switch a joint to a solo, got an account number wrong etc). you get another go. And maybe another... but if it doesn't complete in 60 days from first instruction, you're OUT of chances?
