I also have this issue and for 3 months I have been trying to get some support from Octopus to fix it. No luck so far and I have now raised a complaint to see if I can get any response from Octopus where they will actually try and and fix the issue,

It is a bit rich complaining about a device that Octopus describes as a beta product which they have given to you for free. What do you do after 8 weeks: the EO will not be interested as devices such as the mini are not a Supply Licence requirement.

Not at all. My complaint is about the extremely poor support from Octopus. It is described as a Beta product and I am trying to get it to work and provide feedback to Octopus so that they can improve the product. If they don’t reply how can I do this ?

I do not know what EO means and what relevance this has to my issue.

If you raise a complaint against a supplier then you have the right to escalate it to The Energy Ombudsman. That said, the Ombudsman can only adjudicate on what is contained in the Supply Licence.

My point is that Octopus has developed a device at its own cost which it clearly states is a beta product. Feedback is usually a ‘one way’ street. What exactly is wrong with your mini? Other posters may be able to help.

    Edit: From the Octopus website:

    • We appreciate that whenever we put something out there people will discuss it, and really treasure constructive feedback, but please do it mindfully. When people go overboard with the 'why haven't I got one yet’ or 'it’s rubbish because it doesn’t do this', it does chip away at the enthusiasm of the people who pour their efforts into creating and building these exciting new things.

Why on earth would I raise this with the Energy Ombudsman ?

I have the same issue as an earlier poster of not connecting to my smart meters and a white light. I have a green light so it is connected to my wifi which I can see from my other investigations. I have placed it in numerous locations including next to the electric smart meter.

I would not assume feedback is a one way street at all for a beta product.

Mine is coming today. A new toy to play with! Sounds complicated to set up but can't wait to give it a try.

It couldn’t be easier. That said, the most important thing to do is to place the mini close to the smart meter comms hub. The operation of the mini is simple. The mini connects to the same smart meter network as the IHD. It then needs a home wifi connection to pass the data to Octopus who then make it available to the Octopus App.

It is possible that most problems occur because enthusiastic amateurs (which includes me) try to connect the device outside of Home Area Network’s Zigbee range.

Be great if you could post back here when you've got it set up and let us know if you had (or still have) any problems. That way, we can build up a pool of knowledge to share with other forumites as these gradually roll out. Thanks, Mike

I've now got the mini and set it up as per the enclosed instruction sheet. Took a while to get the blue light which started off pink so needed a bit of patience. Once the blue light appeared, the rest worked perfectly. Electricity showing very quickly, gas not yet. My only problem is where to put it. Could do with a hook on it so that I can hang it on the wall.

If you look in the box, they provide some double-sided tape so you can stick it where it doesn’t show.
