    Edited to tag @mmmmikey

I switched to Octopus in October, and on the 23rd Feb, I said that I'd registered my interest in one "a few months ago".... so December maybe.

    Received it today.

Mine arrived today and cannot get it to connect, it was spinning round trying for about 30 minutes so I closed it. Now when I try it again it just says refresh which I keep doing but the connecting screen does not even appear now. It just keeps bouncing back to refresh. I have tried it in several places even next to the meter. I am really disappointed I have waited ages for it.

Has anyone found the Mini unable to connect to the Smart Meter, from a location where the IHD works OK?  Our meter is outside the house so at the very best the signal needs to go through around 18" of granite. I'm just wondering if the Mini needs a stronger signal than we can give it.

They are built with different components so I guess that wifi signal strength may well vary over distance. I have my mini located about a foot from the comms hub.

I'm guessing you mean HAN, but if you really meant our wireless Internet then that signal is perfectly fine.  But I have found difficulty finding anywhere convenient where the IHD can work.  Maybe the Mini just isn't going to be viable. Currently it's about ten feet to one side of the comms hub, and the other side of the gable wall.

If you run an extension lead for power, will the mini work if placed near your comms hub on the *outside* of your 18" granite wall? (I am assuming your meter is an electricity meter with attached comms hub, and you're not one of those rare cases with only a smart gas meter and a separate comms hub.)
If not, it might be a problem with the mini?

Hi - you mention granite walls so I assume you're in prison on Dartmoor? It gets cold in winter, doesn't it? At least they've improved the sanitation since I was there, or so I'm told.

    But I digress.....

You've obviously realised that there are 2 different wireless networks the Mini needs to connect to in order to work - the HAN so it can talk to the smart meter and the bog-standard WiFi so it can talk to the outside world via the Internet. Have you tried making it work with the Mini on the smart meter side of the granite wall and reasonably close? Is there a decent WiFi signal where the meter is? It might not be a pratcical solution for you but at least if you can make it work like that you'll know what the issue is. I'm just thinking it's possible that you've got a duff Mini and it would be a shame to give up if that was the case.

What is the round push in button for on the front. When I push it in it does nothing. Thought it may reset or something to help with my connection problems
