My EDF switch is now instigated and should go through pretty fast from what they’ve said. A couple of tips for anyone else in a similar boat and wanting to switch
    - phone, do NOT try live chat or WhatsApp - they can flannel you far less effectively on the phone.
    - they WILL try to give you all manner of excuses why you need to call back/they need to call you back at the beginning of the call - approach of being polite but firm and repeating reasons why I wanted it sorted now got it dealt with, albeit slightly grudgingly
    - Their version of variable DD is called “Whole amount monthly” and they may initially tell you it doesn’t exist - but they weaken when you tell them it does… 😆
Thanks for that information, it is really useful I'll be contacting them on Monday about switching from UW. I am in the North Scotland region and from the pdf of the EDF published rates, I see that their "Prepayment Rate" for the night rate on E7 is 11.3p compared with 15.58p for the direct debit rate.

Do you know if they will accept a request to move me onto the prepayment rate from what is currently a credit rate mode on my smart meter which was fitted last year and I'm sure it has a prepayment mode?

The 4.18p saving on the night rate will more than compensate for the more expensive day rate though I am a little apprehensive about moving to a prepayment rate in case I have any difficulty moving back to a direct debit in future.
  • Ended up getting it at 8pm
Electric unit is same as London EPG and SC is 3p less
Although IHD is showing standard sparkling fixed rate.
Yea waiting for my IHD to update as well. They don’t work on the weekends so we’ll see something next week I guess.

Honestly don’t know the answer but allowing that it’s an easy switch over with a smart meter I can’t see why not. I confess if we were on SM then we might have done the same!

Can anyone provide the rates from October 1 for the Tide tariff?

When I signed up to GEUK I worked out that Tide was very slightly cheaper than the more standard Sparkling tariff.

Because I am waiting for a smart meter to be installed, I am at present on Sparkling, and GEUK have told me the new rates for that. I am wondering if I should stay on Sparkling once I have the new meter or change to Tide.

I live in London, if the rates depend on area.
  • Hey Guys so I have finally had my email come through with my rates as a GEUK Sparking V6 tariff and wanted to know of this is any good or was moving to octopus have been the better choice.  I have attached me new rates and also what my usage actually was that I input when I first joined them and they ask for your usage to give you a quote:

  • Looks like they’ve discounted it down to the cap. Not much difference to be gained anywhere else.
  • GEUK has just sent out an email confirming how they are handling the £400 energy bill support scheme discount.

Looks like they are taking a "belt and braces" approach to ensure no one is unaware of what is going to happen having already published details on their web site.

Hey Guys, so I have gone away and contacted octopus  and done my numbers with GEUK and currently as i see it, i would be better off switching, but please tell me if i am missing the big pic somewhere:

The Tariff offered by octopus including the goverment discount would be: Octopus Flexible:
    Electric Octopus: SC = 47.50p / Unit = 33.73p.  Gas Octopus: SC = 26.84p / Unit = 10.33p
+ £50 referral as mother is with octopus.

Octopus Annual Numbers / costs approx = £1,831.50 annual / £152.63 per month

    VS

    GEUK Currently Sparkling V6 is:
    Electric Octopus: SC = 48.12p / Unit = 33.73p.  Gas Octopus: SC = 31.31p / Unit = 10.33p
+ Tariff is fixed untill 2023.

So at Octopus i would be : 0.62p SC better of on Electric / 4.47p better off on Gas (so cheaper overall)
+ £50 credit referral + the £400 discount you get either way, which they said if you have a direct debit they take lesser each month of £67 or if no direct debit it is applied as a credit.

Now i assume most others can get something like this, and whilst it isn't massively cheaper, cheaper is still cheaper right? They have high reviews on trustpilot (where as GEUK have not been great for me in my case), I'm just unsure why anyone on sparkling V6 hasnt really switched? Making me think am I missing something?

    Any input welcome

Because for some, knowing that they still have the security of the fix in place in the eventuality that the EPG is pulled is worth losing the relatively small amount of saving that's possible.

The decision is easier for someone like me - where a significant saving was possible by switching - but for someone fitting a more "usual"  use profile it's not quite so clear-cut.
