Because EDF have much lower off-peak E7 rated than GEUK do, and EssexHebridean uses much more offpeak electricity than peak.seanfos said:

Just spotted this exchange on Twitter. Is it true that the Government has only guaranteed the EPG rates until the end of December? That could mean another price increase on 1st January

No - the standing charge is exactly as we signed up to. Our switch is because their night rate will still be over 24p a unit - EDF’s is less than half that.seanfos said:

@QrizB I always had a sneaking feeling we were going to be off to be honest!

Because the EPG specifically does not affect standing charges on anything other than the Standard Variable Tariff.LauraJayne_2 said:seanfos said:Had my email also. Electric will be 35.98p with a standing change of 47.58p, gas will be 10.34p with a standing charge of 31.31p. Is that as expected?
Sean
I was expecting my Gas standing charge to reduce to 28.49p in line with the Energy Price Guarantee.
Does anyone know why the Gas standing charge hasn’t been reduced?2 -
The government's stated intention is that it will not change for two years. The initial contracts signed with the suppliers are for three months (Oct-Dec). There will be a review prior to the end of these initial contracts.LauraJayne_2 said:Just spotted this exchange on Twitter. I will pose no opinion on this thread as to the possible result of the review.1 -
Thanks, I can see that this is the rationale GEUK has given on Twitter too.Deleted_User said:

Does anyone know why the Gas standing charge hasn’t been reduced? It’s a shame that GEUK’s comms have been so slow and FAQs on their own website don’t explain this clearlyWhat about my standing charge? How will this be affected?
Average standing charges will remain in line with the levels set by Ofgem for the default tariff cap from 1st October, at 46p per day for electricity and 28p per day for gas, for a typical dual fuel customer paying by direct debit.

Generally with these type of things companies tend to do a mailshot to all customers.wittynamegoeshere said:Nothing here either. Are they typing these emails individually?!
Does GEUK have your correct email address? Have you checked your spam folder?
If you can't find it I suggest you give them a ring.0 -
So, for what it's worth, I'm going to stick with GEUK.
I'm paying a very small amount (about 2p a day) extra on the standing charges now vs the EPG.
BUT, staying with them does come with the extra safety net that if the EPG goes up in January I will still have the fix rates I signed for up locked in as a maximum.
I'm happy with that arrangement.4
