    Evening,

 Grr! The present that I rushed to wrap this morning was completely unappreciated - little girl said that it was much too young for her. It was a build-your-own kaleidoscope - ideally I would have bought her a book, but at age 7 she can't read yet :confused::confused:. Still I am glad I have not added to the toys pile - I saw her parents bringing her Xmas presents home and there was 2 car loads full of toys, just for her, for one Christmas (and it was her birthday today as well). This is why I never buy presents for kids, cos whatever you get is never right, ungrateful little swines.

Work was slow, don't think I will be called in tomorrow, although I guess as long as I've got a list longer than my arm there is a good chance I will.

  • Well, tonight things have happened to stop things going on IYKWIM! Had a total stranger coming to the door to say did know you have the mains cover in the street at the top of your path totally spouting water, running down road and creating a scating rink for cars getting out tomorrow morning. No, we did not know this as was fine when I got home from work. Went to tell immediate neighbours and then went to see my neighbourhood plumber (he who does bathrooms and new tanks in loft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Broken pipes and if he turns off at pavement we will have no water. Have phoned Water Board and have had 3 other neighbours calling in to alert us! Another Water Board problem up the road, 3 phone calls and they haven't resolved the matter. They had better sort this one out with the freezing weather!

So sorry you haven't had a good experience present wise. Our 'boys' would love books and Santa bringing them from us. DGS1 totally starting to read before school. I know they all have some problems but books whatever are so much fun and educational. A self build kaleidoscope sounds fantastic.

    You did your best.

Kids are never too young for books, whether they can read or not their parents can, and they learn that way too. Surprised though I have a Great Neice 5, who adores anything, books her number 1 favourite, you should see her read. But even if I get here something different for a change, then you can see after a short while she is lost, so I always put a little something in my bag, often just as old unused desk diary from work that has empty pages in for her to write/draw/colour on and she is escatic (sp).

Hi everyone. Sorry if this makes me sound old fashioned but we were brought up, and, indeed bring our children up to be appreciative of all gifts whatever they may be. I think it really impolite-down right rude -to throw kindness back in your face by complaining!!! So far-and hopefully this will continue- my children have always accepted things graciously , but as I said that is how they are brought up and how I was brought up. spoilt springs to mind

  • Hi everyone

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading your 'chatter'. I often feel that I am wading through treacle and getting nowhere fast. i still have not written a single Christmas card - also missed sister's birthday on sunday and a really good friend's aniversay on Friday. I think I am losing the plot.

Do not feel at all Christmasy...... Children are going to my sister's with my parents so no food shoping to be done until after that or DS and DD will eat it all! They tend to hoover up anything edible in the space of 48 hours post shopping. House is a tip as trying to wrap presents and lefft the mess all over the living room. Only about half way there.

It was not too frosty here.... did not have to defrost the car at all. I am hoping to have a very peaceful Christmas and a good rest as will be on my own for the first time ever!

I must go and wash up now as i hate having to do this in the morning before work. And I think I will try and do at least 10 cards.

    Bye for now.

  • Hi Tattycath

Glad your are one of us! You have so hit the nail on the head tonight.

No, you have the right attitude and will pass on to your children. However, my children (adults now) have one or two horrendous memories of my mother and her lack of thought with presents (cutting selection boxes in two when they were young). Is it any wonder they have bad vibes re that. Monetary things don't count but thought does! Grandparent - they don't want to know.

Not what we want to do with our fantastic grandchildren (and son and daughter, partner and husband). We don't buy love but we want to make the whole experience special (which we have always done) especially as DS was born 29th December! His birthday was always a separate occasion from Christmas.

DGSs totally made up when they read my letter I sent from Santa - arrived on Saturday when I was there!!!!!!!
