O.S Daily thread Mon 17/12/07

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 17/12/07. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone

  • Morning :santa2:

Hope everything goes Ok with the doctor and vampire lady Mrs Mix

Aimee, good luck in Asda, I went in last year on Christmas Eve, but never again  Will get everything I can in advance, and then go to Aldi for my fruit and veg.

Work today, and it will probably take me ages to defrost the car, it is freezing here today.

Have a good day everyone x
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D
  • Morning all
It was frosty here at 4, but car was clear of frost at 6 when we went to the Station, so it must have warmed up a little.
The only reason I know it was frosty at 4 is because the small of burning woke me up, started rushing around in a mad panic only to fine the lodger was making a cake & had let the wine & fruit boil dry!
I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

TAPLADY hope you are not feeling too sad. I remember being devastated when my brother left home (he's eight years older than me). DS has told me quite firmly that he is never going to leave home and stay with us forever. With the cost of living that's probably true:p .

Today I intend to go food shopping and get all the Xmas bits I can. Fruit and veg are ok as I go to my local farm shop. I always remember going to Asda one year and not getting out for three hours  . I just refuse to do it anymore. I'm disgusted my local Tesco's is open on Boxing day, although it's voluntary apparently. OH and I both have to work Boxing Day but that's different, we have people to look after.

Rant over. Bubble and squeak and sausages for tea :D .

Have a good day and hugs to those who feel ill and grotty:A xxxx

Havnt peeked out yet so dont know how cold it is today, there was already frost on the car at 8pm last night.

Today is wrapping up day, every present we have will be wrapped - I know I am definately waiting for 1 thing to be delivered it might be 2. I will also endeavour to do all my cards though might have to pop out and buy some more.

Will probably go to Asda as my lovely hurricane lamps arrived from ebay and I need to buy some candles to put in them, they are much bigger than I expected so will put one on the dining table and 1 in the living room.

OH has finished painting the hallway - its only magnolia but some much better than the bright blue that was there, its much lighter and warmer. When the carpet goes down it will be lovely. Just need to hoover thoughout and wash the downstairs floors.

Off out tonight with some friends I used to work with years ago, we meet up a few times throughout the year but I have missed the last few so will be great to catch up.

So no cooking for me today! Think OH will do spag bol for him and the kids.

    Have a great day.

Ooh nearly forgot - Cranford was great last night - a really good ending.

    Morning All

Freezing here - even talk of snow:eek: I'm getting ill, so dosing myself up with vitamin C and lots of fluids. Mum's been ill for a while, so it was inevitable I would get it.

Just heard food prices are expected to soar next year owing to the credit cruch. America's wholesale prices are on the up, with many products reaching record prices. It's not looking good.

Got to pay a bill at the bank later and pay in some PIN money.

Got a long day at work and meant to be meeting a friend for a coffee but I've not heard from her, so not sure if that'll happen or not.

Right, I'm going to do my daily clicks now.

    Hope everyone's ok

    Morning :hello:

Bear in a basket in my calendar today :D

The wedding was great, it seemed more relaxed somehow, being on a sunday. There was a Christmas tree in the church, and at the reception too. Glasses of hot mulled wine were waiting for us at the reception (I went back for a second one - is that bad?? LOL) and there were crackers on the tables in the evening :D After the bride and groom's first dance, the DJ announced our anniversary and made us dance too, everyone stared, I was absolutely mortified - as the bride and groom could tell, they were peeing themselves laughing :rotfl:

It's lovely and frosty here :T Got to catch up with the washing, the animals need cleaning out too so I'll be tripping over them all morning while they run around the hall and kitchen :D

    Have a good day :xmastree:

  • Good morning everyone! Had a lovely weekend away at the inlaws. We got spoiled rotten, and I had 2 sleeps of nearly 12 hours each - really needed it. It's a tradition at theirs to have smoked salmon and champagne on Christmas morning, so MIL did that for a starter on Saturday night. We polished off the champagne between 6 of us and then a bottle of red between 4. The inlaws aren't big drinkers, so that was probably a first :D :j DH and I washed the dishes, with none of the usual fussing from FIL

Had 2 long walks too. Yesterday morning with BIL, SIL and their dogs, over frosty fields and hills. Very bracing.

Marzipaning the cake today, so need to make my marzipan first. Pasta for tea, then I'm taking DD for her Guides trip - ice sliding. Need to sort out the Small Penguins' rooms, too. We're having guests for Christmas, sleeping in their rooms, so need to do a big clear out, tidy and clean.

Belated Birthday wishes to Nels - glad to see you at least thought about gifts for othres :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hester - I'd be interested to know which school you're at. My SIL was complaing about one of her DS's teachers - no-one can understand her accent ;) They're in Berks, too :o

Haribo - any pics of the gingerbread house?

Have a great day, Penny. x

    Morning everyone

    First page - oooh

Not much planned today except a trip to the charity shop- got a text from dbros gf to say he'd bought my pressie from bid-up tv. We have a thing of getting each other something revolting which then has to be displayed prominently for at least 6 months. I had already got him a blackpool tower snow globe but think I will try and get something else as well. His last present to me was a gold cherub head that looked for all the world like a decapitated baby - it freaked me out so much that I displayed it prominently .... in the back garden rockery!

dd11 has her after school club disco tonight - she doesn't normally go on Monday so I have had to pay her fee plus £2 - still it means I get a longer day on my own and they normally put on a great party.
Might ice the cakes today when dd gets back but that's about it apart from the ususal daily grind
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008
  • Hardup hester - your lodger must be nocturnal. What a weird time to be baking? No wonder she let it burn, probably snoozing in the corner.

Was surprised to see we had no frost on the cars this morning. It was as thick as snow on Friday. Still really cold, tho.

Have to get my skates on today as DH breaks up on Friday (maybe Thurs) and I'm determined to have the house done through completely by then so that I can relax. Both DS's are home now until the new year so I'll have them under my feet. (love it, tho. :D )

Going to draw up my plan of action, plus my baking list for this week whilst drinking my third cuppa. Only on cuppa #1 but theres some surfing to be done beforehand. ;)

Hugs to all those poorly, worrying or just needing tlc.
