Sometimes I am thankful that we chose to buy an energy efficient new build1

Went out for an early dinner with my little family and one of son’s school friends and his parents as planned. They were drinking and wife had a glass of wine. I can honestly say it was the first time I felt ok saying no thanks, not for me today. I drink very mindfully these days, can’t say I never indulge but it’s very much planned, very small quantities and in the right company. We don’t have anything of a social life now after I started taking recovery seriously so not that I see anyone who isn’t family, staff, client or tenant usually but even so it feels like a massive breakthrough tbh was ready to go home after eating rather than wanting to go to a bar after, son loved me being there too as wife has more or less been like a single mum but his mates’ dads are always there. Really good day in all.
@RelievedSheff I think they work for a lot of people. I still love period property and am willing to put up with the negative aspects but I can see why you’d make a different choice.

Sounds like you have had a break through today. Well done.

Thank you @RelievedSheff just need to get back on track with fitness now ha. It was nice to not be judged by our company this evening, my old social circle would have. My family deserve better and in recovery I deserve to have them. Staying in recovery also means neither my wife or I spend like a madman and we keep on track financially.
Going to have an early night, up quite early tomorrow.3 -
Sounds like a good evening alt80 and a breakthrough socialising with others. Hope your weekend continues well. Good to see you aren't questioning your right to enjoy time with your family too.1

Alt have you thought about parkrun as a family (including the dog on a short fixed lead)? It's 5k, but it can be by walk walk/run, or run. There's bound to be one fairly nearby.
I'm on my 254th parkrun, having participated at five locations around the country. They're a very friendly bunch and many venues have a cafe for post-run coffee. My favourite for scenery was Milton Keynes. My favourite for pre-run poetry was Ormskirk! I've slowed down by nearly 10 minutes, due to blood cancer, and it invigorates me for the rest of the dayWhat would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?5 -
Have wanted to congratulate you on all you have achieved. I know you were pretty angry with me last time I posted but I knew you were not telling the truth all credit to you, it’s a very hard journey and you have achieved so much.4

Had an absolutely cracking weekend with family. Saturday we had a drive to Hunstanton, managed to get over 20k steps in that day. It was cold but still enjoyed it. Didn't spend a lot of money at all, just over £20 and came back home for fish pie, sparkling tea and a film. Today we went out for a roast lunch (£65 so not bad) and a walk around Wollaton. Just been catching up on a bit of work this afternoon in front of the tv and with my family - not hiding in the office. I feel a lot better and looking forward to the week ahead, no excuses exercise wise either, my wife wants me training with her for two sessions, promised not to kill me off ha so going to do that and booked my yoga session at the gym which she's coming to as well.
@maggiem thank you. I can't see me having much of a social circle again but it was a nice evening.
@satchmo1 my wife keeps meaning to do parkrun and has done it before, so have I years back now though. She’d like it if I suggested it, thanks. We have one very locally and one in another part of the city. Know it’s not about being competitive but I have lost a lot of strength over the past few years, wasn't ever as into the gym as my wife but I'd like to say I kept fit and looked alright but last few years not done much and tbh not in good shape. Managed to not get fat by calorie counting but I know I’m not healthy, eat too much of the wrong stuff tbh lost a load of muscle and strength and need to get back to it including some cardio not exactly done my heart any favours with my past habit.@poppy811 thank you, I’m just getting started. Whilst it is a long road it’s 100% worth it. My wife chose to save me and the least I owe her is me staying off the stuff even when it would be easy to turn back to it. I realised with pro help tbf doing the best for my family is much more than buying them things, it’s the time we spend together and building some security for us.

We went to Hunstanton for a long weekend just before Mr SA started with his illness. I love the north Norfolk coast. You sound so much calmer than you used to be and that must be down to your change in lifestyle, you’re doing so well.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

North Norfolk. An excellent choice of coast.
Glad you all enjoyed it.
We are back down that way in July 😀1
