Look for a thread by @Grizebeck, who started one about the new question on the DQ and you will find guidance on there about why you do not want "on papers".
I found the thread and various links: -

and eventually: -I am not content for the case to be heard 'on the papers' because that seems to disproportionately give an advantage to a legally represented party. I feel strongly after all these years of intimidating demands from this aggressive parking firm and their agents, that I need a voice at an attended hearing.
I wish to question the Claimant about their evidence at a hearing in person and to expose omissions and any misleading or incorrect evidence or assertions.
Given the Claimant is a firm who complete cut & paste parking case paperwork for a living, having this case heard solely on papers would appear to put the Claimant at an unfair advantage, especially as they would no doubt prefer the Defendant not to have the opportunity to expose the issues in the Claimants template submissions or speak as the only true witness to events in question.1 -

The only issue now is fitting that volume of wording inside the text box provided. Is there any issue with writing underneath the box? I don't know how strict/pedantic they are and obviously don't want to do anything to fall foul of their procedures...0

On another note I have started to put together a witness statement based on the template linked in the newbies thread as follows: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/77614685/#Comment_77614685
I am of course just following the structure and maintaining and relevant text, however there are a few things I would welcome expert opinion on.
1. My defence is based largely on the lack of suitable UKPC signage. As well as providing photos of the signs in my case and comparing to the Beavis v ParkingEye signage, is it a good idea to include photos of what I consider to be acceptable signage from another site (a local Euro carparks site) that meets industry standards. The site has high level, illuminated signage all over the carpark and the signs and clear and precise. The UKPC signage in my case is none of those things, and drawing comparisons with photo's for each site really highlights just how poor the UKPC signage is. My only concern, is if it is just too much information that the judge may feel is confusing and irrelevant.
2. The car-park in my case serves a public house. The Tripadvisor reviews for the public house are a wash with comments from angry customers who have suffered the same fate as myself. The comments refer to the situation as a "scam" and "entrapment" and also make reference to the lack of lighting and signage in the carpark. Is it worth including these reviews as a an exhibit as part of my witness statement to paint a general picture and demonstrate that I am clearly not alone in falling foul to the (lack of) signage.
Thanks for your thoughts in advance.0 -
That is an old WS, use later examples such as @aphex007 and @Daiapolon20211
