E.On Next Online v18 - should I fix like MSE suggests?

are you on flex or a fixed currently (before going on v18 in 45 days)ps2mint said:Just so others are aware, I phoned up EON Next today and asked to be moved to the v18 tariff in 45 days time. The agent was unsure whether or not this was possible and I was on hold for a period of time. The agent came back to me and said that this was a legacy policy of EON and not one which EON Next follow, but I was told they would do it. Asked to delay the fix for 45 days and had this confirmed via email that it starts on the 29th September.
I’m a little confused as to why it seems so inconsistent.0 -

I contacted Eon.Next via Twitter to ask if I can sign up to the V18 but defer the start date to when my current tariff ends in October. They first said yes then afterwards changed their mind saying no, and also claiming that this policy applies to all customers (contrary to the posts on this thread above)..

Try calling them another day and asking for it again0

I think this is a situation similar to that out of date British Gas tariff that became much talked about on this forum last winter. Someone managed to get on a tariff which was surely out of date but maybe there was some sort of glitch that enabled it to go thought, and the rep on the phone either didn't realise what they were doing or perhaps didn't really care, and then someone else asked for it and they waved it through because, well it's only one person and you've got to admire their nerve so let it go through, then another and another and suddenly there was a small avalanche of people all wanting to be put on it because they'd seen it on a forum. It got flagged up as an issue, and someone with authority stopped it which should have happened sooner, but there you are, that's what sometimes happens.0

I've logged another complaint today, which will probably come to nothing, let's see what they come back with but it does seem pot luck with who you speak with and if they'll postpone the start date.0

Add in ,when you spoke to them, if you were on the flexi tariff (Cap). and, if you were on a fixed tariff, when the old fixed tariff runs out. There may have been some latitude available to the CS dealing with individual requests. You would have thought there must have been some kind of limit for those currently on fixed tariffs otherwise someone who, say ends in December 2022, could ring up today and ask for v18 to start on 1st January 2023. I agree that it would have been better for Eon Next to have these rules clear for all to see.Maverick1103 said:I've logged another complaint today, which will probably come to nothing, let's see what they come back with but it does seem pot luck with who you speak with and if they'll postpone the start date.1 -
I reckon they have always been happy to delay starting a new fix if you're already on one, but the strict rule on going on to a fix from the SVT is that it should happen immediately, however they've been bending the rules a bit and that was fine before it was highlighted on a forum and everyone called up demanding it as if it was their right - which it probably never was. There are obviously circumstances when they have some flexibility - for example in my case just a few weeks ago, I was on Next Flex but was only with them for electricity, and I managed to get the start of my fix delayed until the gas had been moved across to them. I suspect if that hadn't been necessary I'd have been put on the new fix straight away - in fact that was what the rep initially said but then asked me if I'd like to start straight away or when the gas was on board, so naturally I jumped at the chance, but she needn't have asked and I don't think I'd have had any reason to question her if she hadn't brought it up. In the first week of July it would clearly have been absurd to ask to delay until October!
Don't forget that there will have been times in the past when it would have been advantageous to move to a new fix straight away, and let's hope those times return!1
