Hi,

I was ready to swap to Asda Mobile but then I saw RWG being mentioned here a few times so have looked into this. I'm a bit confused how it works. Is this correct:

If I don't buy a bundle, the SIM is free but I need to buy a top up and get charged 5/5/1 (voice/txt/data).
If I get the ukrwg0 (FREE £5) bundle, getting the SIM will cost £5 as a one off fee but I get 50/50/250 (voice/txt/data) allowance *every* month. If I go above the individual components of the allowance in that month, I get charged 5/5/1 (voice/txt/data) as applicable from the initial £5.
If I get the ukrwg1 (FREE £15) bundle, getting the SIM will cost £15 as a one off fee but I get 100/100/750 (voice/txt/data) allowance *every* month. If I go above the individual components of the allowance in that month, I get charged 5/5/1 (voice/txt/data) as applicable from the initial £15.

If I get the bundles and I eat into the £5 or £15 credit, I can top up by any of the amounts they sell and still keep my original allowance? If this is correct seems like a great deal.

Thanks

Not quite, there is no longer a free "free" sim, minimum charge is now £5 for the ukrwg0 bundle. The £5 and £15 charges are just that, charges for the sim. They are not credit or top-up for calls etc.

EDIT: I'm mistaken, the £5/£15 charges are added to the account as credit for calls etc. Didn't realise as I've never checked the credit balance on either of my RWG sims.

    Are you sure?

Thanks. If I get the ukrwg0 (FREE £5) bundle, it'll cost me £5 for the SIM then it's an allowance of 50/50/250 (voice/txt/data) *every* month? If I go over the allowance in a particular month, I'll have to buy a top up to carry on using my phone but the following month my allowance gets reset and I still have the credit from the top up I previously bought to use whenever?

That seems pretty definitive that I'm wrong! Does that mean that the £5 "credit" could be wound down to zero and the free allowances would continue to be renewed each month? Or would a minimum balance of £5 need to be maintained?

I think @flaneurs_lobster is mistaken. From the RWG website:

You are in: All categories > Pay monthly

FREE 50 mins, 50 SMS plus 250MB data

    £5.00
Get 50 mins & SMS plus 250MB of data every month for free when you do an initial £5 top-up. Existing customers will have this bundle added to their account, new customers will be sent a new SIM to their delivery address.

    Product description

Our FREE SIM gives you 50 mins and SMS each month plus a free data allowance of 250MB. This will renew each month until cancelled. Just do a one-off top-up of £5 to get the free allowance each month. Your £5 top-up will remain as credit on your account.

My understanding is that the £5 (or £15 for 100/100/750) give you 50/50/250 for free every month. The £5 (or £15) are a first top-up and it can and will be used as credit, for instance if you use more than your free mins/texts/MB.

I am now in my 2nd month with them and so far very happy.

EDIT: @fl@flaneurs_lobster Our posts crossed... From an email I received from the it seems that you need to top-up ONCE and then the top-up can be used to pay for additional charges (ie over and above the free stuff) but you don't need to top-up again and you don't need to keep a minimum of £5. At least that was how I understood their email when I asked that. The free bits are yours as long as you don't cancel.

That's what I thought from how I'm reading it. Your initial top up of £5 or £15 will be eaten away when you go above your allowance until potentially you end up with £0. At which time you're relying on your free allowance to use your phone unless you top up.
  • That's interesting, so I could obtain a sim, pay £5 top-up then immediately spend the £5 credit on, say, a 3 minute call to Port Stanley or a premium rate text to a casino site and still get my 50/50/250 renewed each month ad Infinium?

@flaneurs_lobster Yep, that is my understanding. But if you want to make sure just send them an email and ask. I did that before I became a customer and found their CS fast and friendly.

And of course they could change the T&C at any time, I assume.

@sarahTT. Out of interest, did you get the FREE £5 or FREE £15? Just seems that spending the extra £10 will give you more free minutes/text/data to play with before having to top up. Of course you lose that money if you never go above your allowance.

If you get a sim with the £15 "top up", only when you use up your all yr free allowance does it eat in to the £15, until
yr allowance renews, so you could have the £15 on yr account indefinitely in theory. Ive been with them for over a year and cant fault them, remember to make a call ever 90 days to keep sim active
