I know this is a tough question and so far this week is not bad at all. I made some new stock purchases but wondering if I should wait longer

The UK hasn't entered into a bear market (yet). The USA only briefly dipped into bear market territory and S&P500 is currently down only 18% from its previous high. Markets could go up or down from here, as always. If you wait, what will you be waiting for and how will you know when its a good time to invest?

I could be a few more years or it might all be over. There have been times when certain markets have taken 10+ years to recover.

    As long as it takes.

Try to invest with your long-term goals in mind and ignore any short+term noise, such as this ‘bear’ market.

Depends what you read really - quite a few articles arguing the point both ways - as in finished nowish, vs will get worse. On balance I'd say more articles err on the it'll get worse scenario.

I think that's why dca seems to be quite a popular option now, despite proof that *most* of the time its an inferior strategy. By most, I think the Pension craft dude Ramin said 70% of the time.

how long is a piece of string.   Most drops recover within a year.  Longer drops are rarer but do occur.  There have been several periods of two loss years in a row in recent generations and you only have to go back 22 years to find three negative years in a row.

Who knows? It could be over already.

I've around £15k hanging around to invest. Just over a month ago I dipped a toe in the water and spent £4k on a global tracker. It's currently up 6.81%.

I had intended if it dropped below it's starting point to bung in another £4k, but that hasn't happened,  and I can't make up my mind what to do now.

The FTSE 100 has been in a bear market since the end of the last century. In real terms, the index has plummeted around -35% between 1999 and 2022. Not all stockmarkets go up.

The day before the first inkling that the war in Ukraine is over is the best time to buy ....
