I think that the only thing that feels as good as paying off the mortgage is retiring knowing that you will have ample to do what you want.

Preparation
We spent yesterday preparing... for the forecast floods ☔ and for Mr F to hand his notice in 😁:- harvested anything that was ready in the veg patch. Spotted a baby rabbit darting in and out to steal green beans 😲 We've not had a problem with rabbits here before so shall have to keep an eye on that 🐇
- battened down the hatches. Although we don't usually get the rain here as badly as in the surrounding areas. We are sheltered a little by the Cambrian Mountains to the west and the Clwydian Hills to the north so the clouds seem to drop a lot of their rain there before they get to us
- tried out my new vacuum which was a revelation. I hadn't realised how tired my old one had become. I'd worn out the plastic brushes in the roller to nothing 😲 No wonder it was struggling to pick up FDawg's hair. Mr F is going to see whether he can repair my old one and if so I can buy a new roller for it. I think the battery is going too but it should still be man enough to live upstairs where it won't have to work so hard
- Mr F's new laptop arrived and he has spent the morning setting it up so it's all ready to go
- I've researched lots of self-employment stuff and feel I have a much better handle on things. I will be doing Mr F's admin and book keeping as he hates all that sort of stuff
- we've had a good look at his employment contract so we know what options his employer has once he hands his notice in. I don't think they'll go for payment in lieu or garden leave as they need him at the moment but they could ask him to take his holiday entitlement, cancel his overseas trips and restrict what work he does during his notice period. He's now thinking of sending his notice letter on Monday but giving notice as from 1 August. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the pressure he's coming under to book meetings and trips he knows he won't be able to attend.
I keep checking and re-checking my spreadsheets to make sure we're going to be ok. I know we will be, it might just be a bit tight for a few months. It's not as though we've got any option - Mr F's wellbeing is paramount and he's been a different person since we made the decision.
Hope you're all keeping dry and warm.

The first time I tried out my new hoover I was frankly ashamed at how much hair came up (mine and cat's) - I thought the old hoover was cleaning but apparently not! I think with the hospital scare you had with him earlier in the year - it kind of cements that life is for living - and that money is a tool. Life energy is not limitless and we need to choose consciously how to spend it wisely.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I think it's fantastic that you are able to put OH mental health and yours first, so many people choose money as their priority. Although I also understand that many don't have a choice either. Good luck
