Suffolk_lass said:A quick catch up on another diary I have not had time to read and I wanted to congratulate both of you - Mr F on his resignation and you on the utility pole issue.
We have a horrible proposal here in East Anglia from National Grid to run 180km of 50m high pylons across our skies and land, all to take the electricity generated on wind farms in the North Sea into London. Elsewhere (Scotland, and between Essex and Kent) the electricity is being transported under the sea but it seems they will not entertain this and have resolved to wreck our countryside with 1960s technology. I do not think people here understand that they do not have to sign a wayleave. All the offshore farms are privately owned and they gaily sign contracts to take it with no real plan for moving it. The lobbying is for an offshore grid, with landing points on brownfield locations close to consumption points. Since some of the electricity we exchange is between South America and Europe, and between Norway and UK, and of course, between France and UK, all under the see, NG don't seem to think we are bright enough to realise that these prove undersea transmission is possible, and preferable for people's health and wellbeing. Sorry to rant on your diary after nearly a month of radio silence. Your day touched a nerve here!
That's awful SL Is there an opposition group? 'Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world' - Margaret Mead. My small community came up against HMPS and the Government some years ago. It was a real David and Goliath situation but we won in the end. There's always a way. Despite what lip service they pay to a greener approach, it all boils down to money for these big companies in the end.

Breathe
We're having a quiet weekend to decompress from all the busyness and drama of the last week.
Mr F has been pottering around the garden. He's cut up the old utiity pole and used it to replace a rotten beam that was part of the border to a flower bed and also cut down the new gate post/pole as they'd left it rather high. There has been some levelling to do where diggers and cherry pickers have churned up the orchard and we ordered some grass seed to restore those areas.
I spent the day researching company set ups and their tax implications. Quite complicated but I think I've got my head around it now. I'm quite confident when it comes to financial stuff but feel I need to know a little more about small business accounting so have found a free on-line course and signed up to it.
Our focus has definitely changed and our energy and time is being directed towards the next chapter. Perhaps it's time for a new diary?
