Waiting Game
We're playing the waiting game now until the lump sum monies arrive in the bank account. In the meantime, Mr F did his research on a laptop and ordered one today - it was £200 off in the sale and we got an extra 6% off through his employer's discount scheme. Still a big purchase though so the savings have taken a knock. He'll also need a subscription to the software he needs. Overall the cost was quite a lot lower than I'd anticipated and thank goodness as the vacuum cleaner decided that this week would be the perfect time to give up! With an excessively shedding muttley in the house, a vacuum cleaner can not be done without for more than 24 hours so I bought another. 25% off and a little cashback but spending that we could have done without right now. It's being delivered this afternoon. Mr F is going to take a look at the old one and see if it can be repaired.
Mr F will be able to claim his laptop and software costs as expenses against tax. I've been researching what else he'll be able to claim and the car costs are an absolute headache 🤔 This does not surprise me - all of the dealings I've had with HMRC in my life have been an absolute headache 😆
Mr F has decided he'll hand in his notice on 1 August. He has annual leave that week so can avoid having to speak to narcisist boss until she's had time to calm down about it.
Meanwhile, life goes on. I chaired a WI meeting Tuesday to finalise our country show competition entries. Just a few final things to sort out over the next couple of weeks and we're ready to go. One of the team bought me a punnet of tomatoes from her greenhouse 😊 I made banana bread to sustain them and use up a couple of sulky bananas.
We've harvested redcurrants, blackcurrants, lettuce, radish, new potatoes, courgettes and the first of the green and broad beans from the veg patch. That's helping to keep the grocery costs down. Meals have included Ricotta, Broccoli & New Potato Frittata with salad, Fragrant Courgette & Prawn Curry and Mushroom & Sausage Pasta.
It's been an early morning for the Fortunate household today. Our veg box delivery round has unexpectedly lost its driver so the local team are pulling together to keep the deliveries going. This means a much earlier delivery time for us - 5.05 am this morning 🥱 Last week it was 4.06 am 😲 Great that they are keeping the round going for us though and I don't suppose it's any fun for them getting up so early. I just wish FDawg didn't feel obliged to alert us to their presence 😆
That's it for now folks. Hope you're having a good week.

It's 3 months Beanie. It should be longer for someone at his level but no one thought to review it when he was promoted. Ha ha 😁

That would be the ideal SH but I think it very unlikely. They might cancel his overseas trips though which would be fab.
