I wonder whether the issue is with Android? Anecdotally it appears to be the case and my experience so far with an iPhone 14 has been flawless.

It was just the application process where I experienced issues. The app has been fine thereafter.
Yep, same here (a bit laggy during the application process). It's a little weird when logging in (doesn't always autofill my login credentials (iPhone 12), requires me to hit "Log in" twice, and doesn't remember my previous choice of "Great! Keep me updated" about emails), and it's a bit basic compared to e.g. Starling and Monzo, but I expect they'll iron out bugs and add features in the coming weeks and months. Overall, not at all bad.
  • Had no problem registering for an account. When I tried to log on today to pay money in I have a message saying they cannot offer me an account. Looks like my money will be going elsewhere.

Tried to pull money in from Starling - -  no can do, Starling aren't listed as a supported bank. That's probably a Starling issue.

So I had to set up a new payee in Starling for my Kroo account. Starling recognises the Kroo sort code but couldn't find my account, even though I am 100% sure I used the correct name etc. No idea whether this is a Kroo or a Starling problem but not the end of the world.

So I did it the old-fashioned way: sent a small test payment. Receipt msg from Kroo arrived instantly. I then sent the remainder of the money I wanted to shift to Kroo, a 3-figure sum only. Got the receipt confirmation msg instantly again. Happy  :)

Yes, exactly what I've found. I set up a new payee (myself) in my Starling app and double-checked the details, but it didn't find my account. Did the same as you though: initial £10 test deposit, which arrived in the Kroo account within seconds, so then sent over the full amount, which also went through instantly.

Kroo doesn't (yet) support Confirmation of Payee. From their "help" articles

Why do I see a message saying my Kroo account details can’t be checked?

You may see a message stating your Kroo account details can’t be checked when transferring money, this is because of a service called Confirmation of Payee (CoP).

CoP will make it easier to check account and reference details when you transfer money or set up a standing order - this helps ensure payments aren’t sent to the wrong account by mistake.

When will Kroo offer Confirmation of Payee?

We’re working hard to implement this shortly - we'll keep you updated and let you know as soon as this is available.

Starling's open banking api isn't the recognised standard.

I think Starling have claimed their's is more advanced and more secure

    Signed up on Sunday.
Procedure was a a bit slow as others have coommented upon.
Didn't like my driving license so eventually used passport for ID.

Debit card arrived in the post this morning.

Lack of Confirmation of Payee (CoP) is a pain. I just spent ages on phone to Santander to transfer over a large sum, despite having made a small test sum earlier.    Kroo app then wants to 'review' the incoming payment before its visible to me. Kroo app isn't as intuitive as say Chase, e.g I cant easily re-find the message which say they want to review payment.
