I plumped for Green Energy last night, just after Martin told us that news. It is still available at the same rates this morning. That news really tipped the balance (in my mind) into fixing, even though the next two months are more difficult.pearl123 said:
This is what I'd like to know too, especially in light of todays scary headlines re: Putin cutting gas pushing up energy prices.wibbler said:With prices and tariffs changing a lot over the course of this thread, can someone give advice on the best option available now for current ex-Avro Octopus (Flexible Avro) customers? I only see Octopus 12M Fixed and Loyal Octopus 12M Fixed as options to change to on the Octopus website, how does the Agile tariffs fit in (if they are still available)? Do you see any value in switching to Utility Warehouse or Green Energy UK tariffs which seem better? Thanks!
Fixing now means you are safe from fluctuations until August next year, when surely things will either be calmer or there will be government assistance in place. I can't now see prices going any lower than Green Energy prices for at least the majority of that time. I actually think this is a good balance point to fix.0 -
It will only be about 7 weeks paying a higher price by the time your switch activates on day 15.wibbler said:

That sparkling tariff has a high SC for gas, so a warning for light gas users. Although we dont know yet if SC will go up on SVR for gas. If it does it will end up been fine.

I agree that it is frustrating, and look at the people who fixed for 3 years in October last years for slightly more than the SVT.wibbler said:
Thanks for the good discussion on this. My "galling" comment was made just after I talked to a friend who is fixed until February 2023 (like maybe you). I was assuming that prices offered then was still relatively normal, but maybe not.pochase said:Where do you get the idea that people who fixed earlier are saving thousands of pounds? For that to be remotely likely you will need to have energy bills near the £1000 per month.
Why is it galling that those who have taken the gamble and fixed are now getting the benefit? I have taken a fixed tariff in February and am still paying a lot more until October than you do on SVT, plus I was paying for March already 33p / 9p while everybody else was still paying 21p/4p.
It most likely will take until the end of the year to make up for what I paid more upfront before I will start to save money.
But take into account that this was done against the strong advise of people like Martin Lewis. They took the risk of overpaying, and their gamble was successful.
I did not. My renewal date was still a few months ahead and I did not pay that much attention to the increasing wholesale prices, like many others. So I took the risk only in February, and only since a few weeks ago I am sure that I will be winning, if you can call it that.2 -
Green energy UK have released v7 of the Sparkling tariff it takes elect up to 45p and gas 15p depending on your region.
The better V6 deal has disappeared but the v7 is still competitive maybe still even the best switch and fix on the market still.0 -
The Tide has also risen ... but not by as much as Sparkling. Weekday/night/end prices are up 5p/kWh, High and Low Tide are unchanged (at least in my region). Previous rates at this link.

When I re-fixed my gas at 9p back in April, I never imagined I'd be 'happy' about having done that, but that 9p sure looks good now...bristolleedsfan said:Another day, another version
