With Octopus? Here's how to get a decent fix for elec and gas (it's no longer Octopus SPOILER!!)

Just for clarity (and indeed we have different opinions):
The standing charge is not fixed or capped, so Octopus could, without contradicting any promises/website claims, significantly increase that (with 30 days notice)
Not that I think they would, and as stated many times, a more likely change are new versions with new SC and cap.
I agree these tariffs are good choices for many forum readers, but too many caveats and requirements for most website, email or social media MSE followers.
Imagine all the questions about deciphering bills. Bad enough for SVT users!3 -
Mstty said:Absolute rubbish IMO. They are fixed caps well below the projected 14-15p for gas and 43-45p for electricity this October.
The fact they have been ignored by the "deals" team at MSE is a disgrace IMO
We have differing views here which I accept👍There is nothing, in respect of Tracker, that guarantees anything about the unit rate cap. We only have past actions (in respect of Tracker v1 cap last winter and through this year), and (IIRC) the word of a CSA (which, as we know, is worthless, given that different CSAs say different things).Unless there is something, in writing, even on their website, that I'm unaware of?

If wholesale prices go up, am I stuck on the Octopus Tracker paying a higher price?×No, if you ever want to come off the Octopus Tracker, just email hello@octopus.energy and we will move you to one of our other tariffs right away, alternatively you can switch directly in your online account. Additionally, we have introduced a maximum cap on Tracker prices at 40p / kWh of electricity and 11p / kWh for gas
But no never or guaranteed on this one.2 -

No but history has shown through v1 and V2 they will just start V4 and leave v3 where it is.
And that includes the last large price cap increase Apr '22 so there is no reason to believe they will act differently for this Oct '22 price increase and bin off versions 1,2 and 3 and move everyone to V4 rates. They are fixed and this has been confirmed by a number of chats posted here and in other Octopus threads confirmed by Customer Services.

Difficult or blow back should be no reason not to promote a money saving idea.0 -

Going by history and the very high April '22 rise they certainly didn't scrap v1 and V2 of tracker. So again historically I can't see them ditching v1/2&3 and putting everyone on a much more expensive V4 for the big rise Oct 22 but I can see them.anyday releasing tracker v4

Currently being offered the chance to renew electricity on the Go Faster tariff:
Peak unit rate: 35.66p / kWh
Off-peak unit rate: 7.50p / kWh
Standing charge: 41.39p / day
Gas were all good on until end of September 2023 with the Price Promise tariff as long as there's no more changes.0 -
With prices and tariffs changing a lot over the course of this thread, can someone give advice on the best option available now for current ex-Avro Octopus (Flexible Avro) customers? I only see Octopus 12M Fixed and Loyal Octopus 12M Fixed as options to change to on the Octopus website, how does the Agile tariffs fit in (if they are still available)? Do you see any value in switching to Utility Warehouse or Green Energy UK tariffs which seem better? Thanks!1
