Maybe you could show us what design of key you're talking about.diystarter7 said:
Perhaps you could try to understand that there are other marques other than "Ford" lol before you start pontificating on this matter. I'd strongly recommend you look and investigate at least a dozen of the marques before wrongly assuming what applies to your "Ford" may not be applicable to other makes.SiliconChip said:diystarter7 said:

I am not a fan of keyless ignition ( got to find somewhere to put my key everytime)Ibrahim5 said:Who started all this stop/start button stupidity? It drives me mad. What is wrong with a key in the ignition? I thought with time I would find an advantage but I just can't. What is the advantage even supposed to be? Drives me mad every time I get in my newest car.
I think you need to get one and understand how they work before pontificating on the subject. Certainly with my Ford keyless entry there is nothing on the fob that could be pressed that has any impact on stopping or starting the engine.

Various designs look them up as I'm sure you and others will say it will never happen but it does.user1977 said:

diystarter7 said:In the old days you had some BL cars I think where you stick the key in the ignition and then press the start buttonThe "classic" Jaguars, Mk2, S-type, e-type etc all had a starter button and a keyswitch, the first proper minis, upto about 1964, had a button on the floor in front of the handbrake.I struggle to think of an advantage to keyless ignition as well, I think it is a solution to a problem that we just don't have. Keyless entry I can understand, no frozen locks, no trying to get keys out and into a lock whilst balancing shopping etc. although these are the advantages of push-button remote fobs as well, apart from you do have to get the fob out to press the button..The irony (if that is the right word) is that we are charged more for a car with keyless start, even though most of us don't want it!
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Yes, but not via a single quick, and accidental press, which is what I was referring to.The_Fat_Controller said:0 -
I've never accidentally triggered my keys by having them in my pocket whilst driving.diystarter7 said:
good idea "pocket" lol then the fob is accidentally triggered. If I every get a keyless entry car I'd never put it my pocket when driving for that very reasonuser1977 said:

I've been driving various keyless cars for years and never had a problem with keeping the key in my pocket. None of them have ever had a button that would stop/start the car, just to lock/unlock the doors.
The biggest problems are being sure it's actually locked when you walk away, or it complaining if you get out of the car with the engine running.
Some of you guys really should try to understand a bit about something before complaining about it.7 -
"In the old days you havd some BL cars I think where you stick the key in the ignition and then press the start button"Or even older days using a "pull" start with a simple "S" on the pull (probably something used to open a door word is barred?), connected by a thick cable directly to a switch which connects the battery to starter motor directly. Of course, the ignition has to be on, key, for the engine to start!0

Or in a diesel where you turned the ignition off, took the key out, got out, locked the door and walked away with the engine still runningoldagetraveller1 said:"In the old days you havd some BL cars I think where you stick the key in the ignition and then press the start button"Or even older days using a "pull" start with a simple "S" on the pull (probably something used to open a door word is barred?), connected by a thick cable directly to a switch which connects the battery to starter motor directly.
