Who started all this stop/start button stupidity? It drives me mad. What is wrong with a key in the ignition? I thought with time I would find an advantage but I just can't. What is the advantage even supposed to be? Drives me mad every time I get in my newest car.3

Stop/start is completely different to keyless ignition, and the advantage is obvious, it's a fuel saving device to allow less fuel to be used and reduce emissions when you'd normally be sat still and idling. How affective it can be is a different story.Ibrahim5 said:Who started all this stop/start button stupidity? It drives me mad. What is wrong with a key in the ignition? I think Ibrahim5 was referring to a stop/start button instead of a key which has nothing to do with fuel saving.shiraz99 said:

In the context of the problem that the OP had it isnt completely different though as some had suggested that OP wife may have pressed the stop buttonshiraz99 said:

I'm fairly confident that pressing the stop button when driving at speed will have no affect, although it's not something I'd want to try out.photome said:

In the old days you havd some BL cars I think where you stick the key in the ignition and then press the start buttonIbrahim5 said:Who started all this stop/start button stupidity? It drives me mad. From what I've seen of newer cars the stop start if often associated with keyless entry/exit etc.
My son's stop start suv, keyless entry, exit but u press the stop/start and as you walk away from the car locks etc.
I dont like the keyless/stop/start as these cars are much more vulnerable to criminals stealing them.0 -

You can turn off the engine in an emergency at any speed using the STOP button on Toyota vehicles.0 -
Surely it's not just by accidentally touching ie pressing it once ie speeds of more than 5/10mph.The_Fat_Controller said:@shiraz99 kindly see my post yesterday at 1.56 pm, on page 1 of this topic.
