Potentially lethal failure

Seems a bit over dramatic. When my Volvo was a few days old it had a major electrical failure and all the screens with the speedo etc went blank. I turned it off and back in again and it never happened again in the 8 years I had it. I just assumed it was some sort of new car glitch with systems bedding in.1

@richgl1953, so have you, as you said in your OP, actually rejected the car ?
Has the dealer accepted the car back ?

No you don't, you just have to follow through and reject the car as you first indicated. Unless you're looking to try and get some form of compensation.richgl1953 said:My wife was the only person in the car. The diagnostics showed that the engine stopped and that the message came on the screen to restart the car at a speed between 60&70 miles an hour. The technician downloaded the info. He couldn’t understand it as if a problem it shown there should also be a remedial action. There was none which baffled the technician he said he’d never seen anything like it. The finance company say deal with the dealership. I’m not naming the manufacturer at this time. The start stop button was not pressed to cause the engine to turn off, Thai was confirmed by the diagnostics. I really need to find a solicitor who deals with things like this.2 -
Did that happen at 60-70 mph on a motorway like the OPs wife? I don't think he's being overdramatic, I wouldn't be able to trust a car after that again, particularly if a technician can't work out what happened.chrisw said:Seems a bit over dramatic. When my Volvo was a few days old it had a major electrical failure and all the screens with the speedo etc went blank. Sorry about some of the posts here OP that to me look at though they are making fun of the situation.
Are you looking for like for like car and the dealer may entertain this or are you just not happy with the car/model/make etc and looking to buy another one
I can appreciate the stress, distress and fear when that happens at high speeds as it must have taken her by total surprise.
I'm glad you are going to a solicitor and I hope you get the compensation you deserve and a replacement car.
Personally, I see if it happened again and if it did, then I'd reject the car as not fit for the purpose
One of my mates bought a German brand, cost a few quid big car. About 6 weeks later returning from work the low coolant warning came on he stopped the car let it cool down and drove it home as he was only a few mins away. He then looked at the water level and it was low as could not be seen in the smaller tank. He took it back to the main dealer they looked at it straight away and could not find any leaks etc and felt it was an airlock but not certain. He kept the car for 4 years and never had a problem with it during the 100k odd miles he covered in it.
Either way, decide the best route and good luck as when something like this happens you rightly fear when it will happen again especially when no cause is identified.

"We have rejected the car which is in finance as I don’t want her to drive the car again."
Still waiting to see if the OP has actually done so and what they have asked for !2 -

I hear you. However, we all have different thresholds of fear, expectations, standards etc and OP feels like that about what happened, who am I to direct him/them away from what they feel they are owed.Ebe_Scrooge said:diystarter7 said:

Personally, as per my post, I'd give the dealers at least one more chance and check the net for similar problems. I gave an example of a friend's car one fault and never again.
However, the OP is not yet ready to disclose the make/model/etc/etc understandably so.

diystarter7 has a strange view on life, on another thread they suggested calling the police as a builder was taking too long to finish a job.Ebe_Scrooge said:diystarter7 said:
