This thread is depressing. Any posts about how lovely it is to drive an EV?

I find driving an e-pedal and with adaptive cruise control far less tiring than my old petrol car.
Yes, I agree. I found e-pedal driving to be very satisfying. I do miss it.

Edit: you do actually need to be on the other EV thread on this board for unadulterated good news.

Tesla dispute - top auto insurers writing off rather than repairing crashed Tesla EVs

Data showed that insurers had totaled more than 120 Model Ys after they met collisions – meaning the insurers decided it would be cheaper to scrap the Tesla EV altogether and reimburse the owner rather than pay for its repair. These insurers then listed them at auction from December 2022 to early January this year.

    https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/us/news/breaking-news/tesla-dispute--top-auto-insurers-writing-off-rather-than-repairing-crashed-tesla-evs-434648.aspx

Is this going to increase or reduce insurance costs? High salvage values of Teslas may be swinging the decision to treat the vehicles as a constructive total loss, which may actually be a good thing, or are insurers writing them off to avoid the cost of hire cars while they wait for spare parts from Tesla (which can take a while), which is not so good? Or are Teslas just very expensive to repair? I have seen complaints from some people on social media that Tesla insurance costs have gone up.
Now that, I really do not want to be reading.

January month end EV sales reports are beginning to trickle through now.

In the first 29 days in January, Tesla's average daily retail sales in China surged 36% over the corresponding period a year earlier, to 25,686 vehicles.

Note that is not 25,686 cars sold daily! The January 2022 figure was 19,346.

Edit: in 2022 the Chinese New Year fell on 1st February. This year it was on 23January which would have impacted sales.

That would be 12 months of production sold in 1 month and if they were able to supply enough - 9m cars a year.  Call me sceptical but I doubt it.
    I think....

It was 25686 in total 1-29 January. Sorry I could have made it clearer.

It probably is for some people but hopefully not mine. It also can be bad for one’s pocket.

The thing about Tesla is they are always making the news for better or worse. When was the last time you saw a news story about a Vauxhall Corsa-e or even a VW iD3? Who has a clue what VW’s share price is doing or how well used iD3s are selling? Who cares? When did you last read a story about a Nissan Leaf crashing while using Pro Pilot? Any idea how Ford or GM’s share price has performed this year or last year? I haven’t, but then again I don’t have shares in them. I believe a few (even if not a lot of) people on here have Tesla shares, held directly or in some unit trust or investment trust such as Scottish Mortgage, and are directly impacted by what is happening with Tesla.

You don’t care about Tesla - that’s fine, you can just skip the Tesla stories and post about other EV manufacturers being investigated for this, that and the other, or their cars piling into stationary emergency vehicles, or driver aids being removed, their sales, their production and pricing, their defects or anything else EV related that makes the news. The more (contributions), the merrier.

    Edit:  edit removed

EU responds to US and Chinese green subsidies in leaked plan

Although the draft has mostly been perceived as a move against the US’s new green policies, it could also be seen as a step in reducing the bloc’s reliance on Chinese technology. In the past, the European Commission has accused China of using “unfair” and “market distort[ing]” subsidies to advance in the race to produce clean technologies.
