Yesterday I updated the WBAC valuation on the TM3 I had been following since May when it was £43,000. I forget all the details of the car but it was a Performance version. On 6 January 2023 WBAC valued it at £27,745 and since the price cuts on 13 January it has only lost £1,450, now down to £26,295.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -
Toyota Calls On Science To Tell EV-Only Extremists That They’re Wrong
By contrast, Toyota wants to sell around 5.5 million internal combustion-engined and plug-in hybrid cars per year from 2030, as well as 3.5 million EVs, including 1 million Lexus-branded cars.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -

Tesla sales of China-made electric vehicles up 18% in January
That was up 18 per cent from December, when the U.S. electric car maker sold 55,796 China-made vehicles, and 10 per cent higher versus January last year.
Tesla's Shanghai plant in December cut output by about a third from November, and extended a Lunar New Year holiday period for workers in January, to cope with rising inventory.

Tesla Model Y gains full access to $7,500 EV tax credit with new $80,000 price limit
Today, the IRS updated its list of eligible EVs and fixed its mistake by making all versions of the Model Y eligible up to $80,000 MSRP

Tesla dispute - top auto insurers writing off rather than repairing crashed Tesla EVs
Data showed that insurers had totaled more than 120 Model Ys after they met collisions – meaning the insurers decided it would be cheaper to scrap the Tesla EV altogether and reimburse the owner rather than pay for its repair. These insurers then listed them at auction from December 2022 to early January this year.https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/us/news/breaking-news/tesla-dispute--top-auto-insurers-writing-off-rather-than-repairing-crashed-tesla-evs-434648.aspx
Is this going to increase or reduce insurance costs? High salvage values of Teslas may be swinging the decision to treat the vehicles as a constructive total loss, which may actually be a good thing, or are insurers writing them off to avoid the cost of hire cars while they wait for spare parts from Tesla (which can take a while), which is not so good? Or are Teslas just very expensive to repair? I have seen complaints from some people on social media that Tesla insurance costs have gone up.
My Tesla is currently in storage waiting to be repaired, while I'm being distinctly underwhelmed by a polestarThat got me thinking about all the Teslas currently sitting on car dealers lots for months, potentially with batteries going flat. I wonder how many of them are keeping them charged. The dealer I bought my Golf from had let the 12v battery go flat and had to put a new one and they have had the same 3 M3s on the lot for months. I don’t know if there is anything in the Tesla warranty about keeping the HV batteries charged.Buying a used Tesla (or any EV) that has been on a dealer’s lot for months would be a worry.Edit: the VED on the TM3P that I have been following as a price guide expired on 5 August 2022. That’s been 6 months sitting around unused. Can’t be good.
Edit 2: of the 3 Teslas at my local dealers, one is taxed and the VED on the others expired on 2 September and 6 September.I imagine it is a similar story around the country.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -

My Tesla is currently in storage waiting to be repaired, while I'm being distinctly underwhelmed by a polestarYou say “You only seem to repeat the bad news stories on here.“That may just be a matter of perception. If you are expecting me only to post bad news that might be how you read what I post and of course your idea of what is bad news may differ from mine. I don’t consider the Toyota story to be bad news. There is a finite supply of materials, why not use them as effectively as we can? I might perceive your “good news” rangers story as “bad news”. I am not sure how my wife would feel about some stranger approaching her while charging and asking to be given access to the car to fix something she didn’t know was broken. It might seem like a scam to her, like the builder who is just passing offering to fix that loose tile you didn’t know about.Of the 6 posts I have made on this page I would have thought at least 4 you might have considered to be good news stories.
” Better news today, the price has jumped back up almost £2k to £25,135”.“EV demand up 39% y-o-y in January”
“Tesla sales of China-made electric vehicles up 18% in January”
“Tesla Model Y gains full access to $7,500 EV tax credit with new $80,000 price limit”
I would genuinely be interested to hear why you consider these to be bad news stories. I would also be interested in what is wrong with posting bad news stories? Isn’t that the foundation of most journalism and forums? Isn’t that what we get 24/7 on news channels. Most news stories are about something that has gone wrong; that’s just the way it is today. It would be nice to turn the clock back to the 1950s Pathe News jingoistic style of reporting but the world has changed.I started this thread to be an open forum for both good and bad news stories - it is not an EV cheerleading thread as the other was once called. I respect the other EV thread on this board is exclusively for good news stories and never post anything there that might possibly be considered negative. This thread is about the realities of EV life, both good and bad and for comment about anything EV related. I don’t mind what you post about EVs on here but in the interests of harmony can we please keep it to EVs and not make it too personal. If you feel the story about batteries potentially going flat on dealers forecourts is without foundation please feel free to provide alternative comment.Edit: replaced “negative” with “bad news” in para 2 line 6.
