Tesla Model Y gains full access to $7,500 EV tax credit with new $80,000 price limit

Today, the IRS updated its list of eligible EVs and fixed its mistake by making all versions of the Model Y eligible up to $80,000 MSRP

    https://electrek.co/2023/02/03/tesla-model-y-gains-full-access-7500-ev-tax-credit-80000-price-limit/

So what happens to Model Y list prices in the US now? Does Tesla put them back up now all Model Ys are eligible up to $80k.
    Yes.

Tesla Model Y price up $1,000 after U.S. relaxes tax credit terms

Forgive me being cynical but at the time of announcing the price cuts last month a Tesla spokesperson said “ At the end of a turbulent year with interruptions to the supply chain, we have achieved a partial normalisation of cost inflation, which gives us the confidence to pass this relief onto our customers ..."

Does this mean costs are rising again?

It probably meant that they reduced the price by more than they wanted to because of all the confusion about tax credits & what constituted an SUV & what didn't.
Yep. I thought it was odd last month, that they hadn't dropped the price to $54,999, but then it dawned on me that people wouldn't be able to add on any extras like paint, leather, wheels.

Looks like Tesla is going to have a monster year.

She was at 63% when she got hit 10 days ago, and thankfully is still at 63% now.

I guess it depends how long she is away for, however its going into a specialist tesla repair shop, so I'd imagine there will be some basic charge state guarantees in place for them to be a specialist tesla bodyshop 🤷‍♂️

That’s impressive. Seems like you’re on top of it.

How is the reliability and battery longevity on the ipace, looking likema cracking sh buy.

Great news for the second hand EV market if the bubble is finally bursting. Hopefully we will see 3 year old cars at low 40% new price in the not to distant future, especially good if new prices are also falling.
    I think....

Surprising that the SMMT haven’t  released the new car registration figures for January yet.

Demand for new EVs on Auto Trader at ‘three year low’

That’s the view from Auto Trader which said that in the summer of last year, EVs accounted for nearly 30% of all new car enquiries being sent to retailers.

It said by November, as electricity prices began rose it fell one in five, and today its fewer than one in 10.

Auto Trader commercial director Ian Plummer said the record EV sales performance in December was skewed.

“The dip in electric car sales reveals that December’s record performance – when one in three new cars sold in the UK was electric – was artificially inflated due to Tesla’s huge quarterly vehicle delivery and the impact of annual manufacturer emissions targets rather than reflecting genuine consumer appetite at that level.”

    Just me being impatient.

New car market defies national trend to deliver green growth

Electrified vehicles notably drove the increase, as manufacturers continue to bring ever more choice to the market despite ongoing strains on the supply chains. Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) comprised 14.4% of new car registrations, increasing volumes by 40.6%. Meanwhile, battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations rose 19.8% to reach 17,294 units, or 13.1% of new registrations – slightly below the average recorded for 2022.1 Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) recorded a 0.7% rise, although their share fell to 6.9% of new cars reaching the road.2 As a result, one in five new cars registered in the month came with a plug.

No one can possibly argue with that - can they?

SMMT January figures now out. Tesla’s sales in January rose by a massive 1187% y-o-y. And they still have over 700 cars in stock available for a stonking February as well following the price cuts. Tesla’s  plan to reduce the focus on 3rd month in the quarter deliveries is paying massive dividends. At this rate of increase Tesla sales in the UK could top 600,000 units.

Edit: Tesla’s sales in Germany in January were also up 900% y-o-y so this is not just an isolated UK phenomenon.

Tesla will have to open loads more gigafactories to meet this year’s demand.

    To the moon…

Edit again: this seems too good to be true. Have I missed something?

I am not sure how useful that headline article is - it needs to take into account average vehicle age this year compared with last and that seems to be overlooked.  The TESLA Model S is shown as the biggest fall in average price.  If I understand correctly, no TESLA Model S cars were available new last year, so the average age of the cars this year must be older.  Just one vehicle where the headline change in price can be explained (to some extent at least).

The iPace prices were firmer when I looked around two-three weeks ago than when I looked late October.  I looked again today and the prices have moved in the buyer's favour somewhat (compared to both a couple of weeks back and compared to October).
