Tesla on eBay - starting bid £14,900.

It will be interesting to see what this Model 3 makes in the eBay auction.

Edit: actually not worth watching - it has “sold” twice already.

FWIW the winning bid was £23,100. The 2 previous times it “sold” it went for £26,600 on 27 December and £27,300 on 4 January. Mileage is 60k. The very same car is being advertised on AutoTrader for £26,999.

Tesla Model Y PCP prices have fallen assisted by a lower interest rate of 3.9% compared to 6.9% last week. That’s a saving of £2651 over the 3 year term.

Edit: meanwhile business Model Y PCPs rates have risen slightly following an increase in interest rate from 6.9% to 7.9%. That’s an increase in cost of £964 over the term of the PCP.

Interest rates on Model 3 PCPs are currently showing the same interest rates as for Model Y.

    Edit 2: For business

Hidden price tweaks and discounts - perhaps they are not as different from legacy manufacturers as they claim....
    I think....

Yesterday I updated the WBAC valuation on the TM3 I had been following since May when it was £43,000. I forget all the details of the car but it was a Performance version. On 6 January 2023 WBAC valued it at £27,745 and since the price cuts on 13 January it has only lost £1,450, now down to £26,295.

WBAC messaged me again as the old valuation had expired and today it was down to £23,195! That’s £3,100 down in less than a week.

Video report from Car Dealer in the state of the used car market with particular reference  to EVs.

I think the headline should refer to Model 3 not Model Y.

These monthly reports from the motor trade are useful in that they report what is actually happening with used car values. All markets tend to be cyclical and we have seen this with used EVs. They will bounce back but the report suggests they may go lower first.

This graph of used EV inventory is the US illustrates why oversupply may be driving down used EV prices.

I wonder what price level Tesla would need to sell 1.3m vehicles again this year - let alone 1.8m?

They have to compete not only against other car companies but also against the huge number of second hand cars suddenly reaching the market.
    I think....

'Elon Musk has made me embarrassed to drive my Tesla now'

"It's been very depressing, and sometimes embarrassing to be driving this car around," says Anne Marie, a former journalist who lives in Connecticut and wrote an article about her discomfort. "I wondered if people were making a judgement about me that I wasn't looking for."

Indie Grant, who works in the insurance industry in New Zealand, ruled out a Tesla due to Mr Musk's politics when buying an electric car last year, opting for a Peugeot instead.

"With him being so tied to the brand, buying a Tesla feels very much like a passive but regular announcement of 'I think Elon is great. I love everything he does,'" the 35-year-old says.

"That really wasn't the message we wanted to give and with so many options, taking that out of the running didn't affect the choices too much."

There is a certain sector for whom Elon Musk’s opinions are now a reason not to buy a Tesla. I do find this a little strange for 2 reasons.

Firstly, I buy a car because I perceive it to be the one that best satisfies my needs/desires - not to be seen to be making a political statement.

Secondly, Elon Musk is still basically the same outrageous Elon Musk who a few months ago was perceived (along with GT) as doing more than any other individual to save the planet. Can someone who believed in what he was doing for climate change (and still is) be so shallow as to now reject Tesla because of Musk’s views on other matters? Well, maybe if virtue signalling is your thing, you can and of course in that case you will go out and signal to the world just how virtuous you are.

Just amother update on my old 40kWh Leaf valuation with WBAC.

It has has dropped another £2000 to £11565 in the last 7 days and is down over £9000 since 8 October when it was £20,685.

It seems Teslas and Leafs which were the main volume cars coming off leases are faring particularly badly. They are very good value at the moment but the problem is jus5 when do you buy? A bit like Tesla shares which fell horrendously in early January and then went up 75%. Anyone brave enough to have bought at $101 will have done very nicely but who knows where they will go next?
