Our small local train station installed charge points a couple of years ago. Never yet seen one in use. There were only 24 parking spaces anyway, now 4 are blue badge holders only, 4 are charging points.

Drivers now have to use the overflow car park over the other side of the road.

It is often said how much cheaper it is to maintain/repair EVs but the story below in Autocar paints a different picture. Now I know for everyone of these stories there will be 10 of ICEv components failing after 35,000 miles and costing just as much or more to repair but let’s just take with a pinch of salt the argument that because EVs are mechanically so much simpler they will go for 100,000s of miles and not cost a fortune to repair.

£5,000 plus VAT for an inverter, though, is taking the Mickey. What will other EV drive train components cost? (In case anyone else is thinking the same I would myself get a secondhand inverter from a scrapped Zoe but then you can always do an engine swap on an ICE.)

Electric car drivers could face huge repair costs as EV car parts 'much more expensive'

For example, a coolant pump repair for a BMW i3 – carried out by one of MotorEasy’s registered and approved garages – costs a whopping £2,293.99.

That’s compared to around £400 at a franchise dealer for the same part on a BMW 3 Series petrol model.

Meanwhile, replacing a door handle on a Tesla Model S is almost £670 according to the MotorEasy data – the retractable feature being controlled by an electric motor – while a simple door handle on an Audi Q7 comes in at around £245.

The cost of the i3 (BEV) water pump varies from £75 to £137 online.

The pump is located behind the n/s wheel arch liner so access is easy with little disassembly (liner & undertray). The only special tool required is a vacuum filling kit (Draper £87) & a compressor if you don't already have one (£90).

    Total cost £314 + 2 hours labour.

    And thats exactly the issue.
The right are dead against being moved off ice, no-one likes change, but add in old white rich men and it becomes "I won't change" and instead they pay people to halt or stall the change in multiple ways.

I'm absolutely sure certain parts of an ev would be expensive to change, and especially if you go with main stealer prices, but jeezo we can all do that.
Try looking up the price of a power steering pump line replacement on an audi a8 v10, it will make your eyes water, same for many audi clutch changes.
Fiesta engines are maybe £200 these days, but cosworth engines, not so much.

In 20 years time it will be harder to get a hold of ice car parts and easier/cheaper for EV.
Why are Ford parts so cheap, because they are plentiful and ford's break often.
Why are ev parts so expensive, cos they are not plentiful and thus far have proved super reliable

How does that cost to repair the motorised retractable door handle on the TMS compare to the similar motorised retractable door handle on the Velar?

I'm not sure that resistance can really be shown to any political bent or any specific sub-set and trying to do so is likely not conducive to moving the argument forwards.

Don't "old, white, rich men" seek to have the latest thing to show their success?  Much the same as any other segment of society.

I'm afraid it can be seen quite clearly, conservative people by there very nature like to conserve what they have, progressive people want to move on adapt, and change the status quo.

To be more political the majority of over 55s vote for a conservative party, the majority of under 45s vote vote for progressive.
Part of the reason that England usually votes for the blue party is because pensioners always vote.

Edit for the graph I forgot.
