In the scheme of things, road tax is only a small cost element of motoring and only a small part of the savings sacrificed. It was always going to happen at some point, unless your expectation was for other elements of general taxation to make up the revenue difference.MouldyOldDough said:EVs are going to be subject to road tax according to the chancellor

Why? Are they dropping the tax from ICE vehicles?

I know - the possibility of paying a very small amount of money in a few years time has really made me regret the thousands and thousands of pounds saved by having my EV....MouldyOldDough said:EVs are going to be subject to road tax according to the chancellor

£165 from April 2025 it seems (plus the >£40k uplift), and will apply to all BEVs not just those registered on/after that date.
That's what I took away from the announcement.Jenni x0 -
BEV’s first registered since 2017, older ones stay on the CO2 system so £0 currently.Better order my next EV today for a chance of delivery before 2025 and avoid the lux car tax.0

So my old petrol car is still going to cost around £30 per year. You'd think the government didn't want people to switch to electric.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.2 -
Even with the actual charging costs continuing to ramp up to god knows how much???ComicGeek said:

Because they haven't actually gone up that much for most drivers, and many EV drivers still save a fortune compared to ICE?

But then you know this, because you've made the same claim dozens of times and had it rebuffed each one.
The cost of fuel went up too, so EV's in the worst case are still just about as expensive as ICE in the best case. That's before stuff like congestion/emission zones, maintenance, convenience and air quality.

Diesel seems to be the fuel that is ramping up in price currently and that’s before the 12p duty rise due in April.0
