Ok, if I say what we use rather than what we pay for it would be 8-10kWh a day in electricity but as it's "free" with the solar we don't really worry about trying to cut down.
My husband thinks he read that tumble drying doesn't cost more as you don't need to iron clothes after. I'm happy he doesn't now remember I made that up because I don't like ironingBarnsley, South Yorkshire

Currently 7.5kWh a day here all electric household so that includes hot water as well. We could easily dip to under 6kWh a day is we didn't use the tumble dryer but to be honest we have met our target and then some for the energy savings we wanted to get to since the start of April.0 -
40 gallons of hot water is ~180l. Say 10l/min for a shower but you won't be using 50l of hot at 60C for a 5 min. shower, it will be mixed with some cold (how much will depend upon what temp you like at the outlet). You could probably get 5-6 such showers from 180l of hot at 60C.0

There's a lesson here only heat what you need we are all set on having to have the same settings for the whole year. We may even knock this down to every other day when in the height of summer as I won't want anything but a Luke warm shower then.0 -
brewerdave said:Don't pretend to understand how your usage is that low including hot water. By my maths 40 gallons of cold water @ 15deg C heated to 60deg C needs nearly 11kwh - I reckon a 5 minute shower uses half of that so are you all climbing in the shower together ?? Our gas use in the Summer for hot water only is ~ 15kwhand:Mstty said:Heat pump ...Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Broomstick said:I'm now averaging at about 1.5 kWh daily for electric, and this past week has been 0.12 kWh daily for gas but I'm still experimenting with that. No solar power unfortunately - but it's been really interesting to see Benny's and other solar users' figures. I'm a one person household. Basically, I think I've now reached an almost-camping lifestyle but indoors.
Electric: No use of fridge, freezer, dishwasher, tv, dryer, PC, oven, but careful use of lights, kettle, washing machine and microwave, plus laptop, internet, phone and other small electricals that need charging. I'm vegan and through the summer am only buying food that does not need chilling or much cooking. I'm also lucky in that I have a couple of useful food shops within walking distance and I have some tinned food in the cupboard for emergencies. I think I'm going to struggle to keep the electricity costs this low when the heat of the summer arrives and I would normally have switched on a fan.
Gas: space heating switched off, water heated every couple of days for 20-30 mins only (for quick showers), low use of hob. The fact that I can hand wash dishes perfectly well most of the time in cold water has been a discovery. For extreme users you may want to build a portable Solar power station

For the year from 04/03/21 to 04/03/22 I used an average of 3.8 kWh of electricity and 8.8 kWh of gas (used just for heating and hot water) per day. This is as a single occupant of a 3 bedroom detached house, and being out at work most weekdays.
I've reduced my electricity use a bit recently, averaging 3.0 kWh per day this month.0
