  • Welcome back dia 😀 Lol I know I'm obsessed with the paint. Thanks for saying the photo is nice. I'm quite enjoying the challenge of the room but it is frustrating as all get out. Especially when I'm trying to get something to work to get stuff organized but there is too much stuff in the way

Not as far along in the room organization process as I would like. Grand plan for today was to construct a screen. Which didn't happen. I got as far as cleaning the wood then nothing. No ideas. Then I went out to the charity furniture shop for a browse and to lidl for food that didn't come out of a box.

Currently enjoying the thunder and lightning. Sadly the dog is not.

Quite a bit of spending this morning while dad was with the carer. Went to the village where there are 3 charity shops to look for toys for the nephew. Wound up with a trunki for 15 euro for him and trousers, a book and a bag/basket for me. And lunch of a chicken Caesar salad.

Sounds like a nice morning, and you've done the prep on the wood which is a good start.

The entire house is down. Teacup and heavy are both in bed. I may be slightly skeptical about how sick heavy is but oh well.
The problem with having a day where I am doing lots is that it is difficult to wind down. Only one easy, silent job to do which is tape the edge of a plywood board.
Have phoned the ot to ask about a temporary hoist for dad. He is so tired that he isn't standing very well. It's a leave a message system but I was still reluctant to do it. It was one of those moments where I could peel back the various layers and realise that I am genuinely reluctant to make phone calls because I don't know what to say.
I also might have been watching autism videos and got an obsession with pasta in butter. Not a 9pm meal but hey ho had to be done

The hoist sounds like a good idea, if he can cope with being hoisted. It will also protect your back of course.

I don't know why pasta and butter shouldn't be a 9pm meal? Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, especially if you add marmite (sorry if you aren't a Marmite fan).

Does it help you to make a note of what you need to talk about before you ring people? I'm not the best at phone calls so pen and paper come in handy.

When I was caring we had a hoist. It made a huge positive difference but it upset me as I didn't want for us to need one.
Pasta and butter sounds like comfort food. Not surprised you wanted it.
    Have a good day today

I don't actually know if I like marmite Cherry, not sure I have ever had it.
It's a lot of simple carbs to have before bed, affects the quality of sleep. It was very comforting though.
I did come up with an idea for transfer for dad last night as I was googling. So thats ok if I'm stuck. I'm just hoping to get him back standing and walking. I also ordered 2 transfer gait belts.
Today the newish carer is here in the morning, he isn't the best at companionship but an extra pair of arms is good.
Teacup is up and out walking but is likely to overdo it so I won't go to work today either.
Sister Act arrives at the weekend (in theory, their household has been struck down by a sickness bug)  so I may switch my focus (lol) to tackling that to do list. Not in it's entirety but just to break the back of it as it were.
I may just categorize my own stuff though as that is far more fun.

Don't let the visitor bring the sickness bug!

If I were you (and I'm not, and you know your Dad best) I would focus efforts on standing and walking when everyone is at their most resilient - perhaps in the afternoon is he's stiff in the morning and tired at night, etc, and I'd take it in short bursts. I'm trying to remember what worked for an older lady I used to support. You might even find it helps to break the day into parts around when he likes to sleep.

You can also get a waistcoat-type transfer garment, so if at some point you find your Dad is leaning forward too much, or if he's shorter than you, it gives added leverage as it were.

Marmite - a whole new experience just waiting to be tried!

  • I was thinking something along those lines Cherry, good to know it's actually a thing. One of the problems is that dad is a good few inches taller than me so the physics is a conundrum. Carer this morning is fairly strong though so got him into the chair relatively quickly. I need to get something for him to hold onto while standing anyway, regardless of sickness.
Was reading Melanie Reid's memoir recently and there were some suggestions in that I may try

I like the photo in your painted room.

I quite often write mini-scripts for things in work and outside of work. I definitely rehearse what I plan to say beforehand.
