From experience as a person many years ago doing too much exercise with too small a food budget, I ate a lot of pasta. You can make porridge with full fat milk, and if you keep adding more milk and cooking it a little more, you can get a lot of milk into the same volume of porridge as the water evaporates (calorie dense) and then top with something you like (jam, chocolate chips, fruit) for taste. I also ate toast with loads of butter and peanut butter when I was too tired to cook proper food. Serious amount of steps and a brilliant excuse for eating chocolate !Happy belated birthday and I hope this year you are happy healthy and loving lifeDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Just saying I am think you did brilliantly to become a postie! If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

I have noticed a weird level of enthusiasm for the postie job, does everyone harbour secret Postman Pat fantasies? I won’t lie, have gone around singing the theme tune to myself.
There has not been much going on of late which I suppose is the dictionary definition of a break. The reality has been that I am only on a break from posting here. My ‘real world’ has shrunk dramatically since I have been working two jobs and the exhaustion has hit me hard. And so, dear reader, I quit.So tempted to end the post there and leave you all in suspense (all three of you 🤣🤣🤣) but I am in a relatively good mood this evening. As of Friday week, I will no longer be working as a cleaner. I did genuinely debate which job to keep on but realistically there was no choice as the cleaning job wouldn’t cover my bills. With income from two jobs I have been making regular debt repayments, covering my fixed and variable spending and ending the month with money left over.Although I have created budgets, based primarily on percentages as per Gail Vaz-Oxlade style I have retained my old spending habits. This has meant most of my spending has been on my bills and food.My workload really affected my life skills and sleep. I prioritised eating whatever I could instead of food budgeting. My new income won’t kick in until May so I have some time to adjust. I did do an affordability test before handing in my notice so I can run my life on it.9 -
Welcome back! You did amazingly to work those jobs as long as you did, and making debt repayments is fab (and your step count was astounding). So you are keeping the postie job, then?
I think having a bit more time for yourself and sleep, you will find you can reduce your outgoings somewhere, possibly food, even if just by making a week's worth of sandwiches at once and freezing them till needed.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
