  • A small sample of the ridiculousness of ASD life:
you are too hot take your jumper off.
    no
    you are too hot
hours later jumper is finally off.
The air is touching my arms, the air is touching my arms…
Still too hot, puts fan on. Fan is too noisy, turns fan off.
Drinks Guinness Zero and eats crisps.
No problem was harmed in the making of this story.

I blame the climate myself: if it stayed just a bit too cold so we could keep in jumpers all year round, we could keep that comfort blanket effect and not have to wear sleeveless things. It's the same as changing the weight of the bedding - this year I've had months of sleeping in a fleecy lounge top which makes me too hot, or a vest top, which is rarely warm enough... so the hot water bottle came in very handy because warm feet help me sleep, as do the soft clothes - but then I get too hot...

Guinness and chips sounds like a perfectly acceptable solution to most problems to me  :)

So relate on the temperature thing.

My issue is bugs. I strip off as I'm too hot - but then end up covering up as I can't stand the feel of things landing on me - or sometimes even the feel of a gentle breeze stirring the short arm hairs etc.

  • I live in Scotland for a reason Cherry! It is perfectly possible to wear a jumper all year round where I live. Being in Dublin though has been eye opening as to how far I will go before I make a change.
Guinness and chips after a mountain hike was perfection DIA.
It’s funny SH I never realised how much I was affected. So many of the clothes I had that I didn’t wear were because of this sensitivity- 3/4 length sleeves, collars etc.
bought stuff my eyes liked that my skin hated 😂😂😂

Booked travel back to Scotland for tomorrow. Hoping today still feels like a holiday. Didn’t have much rest this time around, oh well. It all goes into the Learning As We Go

I can relate on not understanding until later on why certain clothes get worn and others don't.

I bought a beautiful broderie anglais style dress this year - which I initially felt looked great on me but now have lost confidence in - but I think it is also that it left imprints on my skin. They hurt after a while. The layers which looked pretty were also uncomfortable to sit on for long - so great if standing / walking but not otherwise. Apparently ASD people also often struggle with crocheted / clothes with patterned holes in them - as it messes with our temperature and gives too much difference between where the material sits and where it is missing...

I didn't know that @savingholmes, but it makes sense to me. I can't stand labels in things because they scratch - the back of my shoulders are probably covered with scars from the scabs. :( Same goes for glittery thread or things like off-the-shoulder tops - just wrong. :D

  • At one particularly masochistic point in my life, I found myself drawn to quilted jackets🤦 Every time I went into a shop I’d find one and think about buying it. A jacket which is entirely made of seams. Madness

I have a lovely coat from M Kors I rarely wear as it's too noisy.... The friction sound of material can drive me insane.

I remember getting corduroy dungarees as a teenager. I loved them, especially the shushing noise they made!
