  • For Sale: one small child, slightly used (license plate year 71). Boy varietal. Inexpensive to run, eats mainly bread. Regular exercise required.

Sunday morning, I did not have a cold. Sunday evening, my nose was running. Guess what happened in between?
Sadly, Very Small One is now in hospital again(!) with a mystery ailment. So I am back helping out with Small One. The energy drain is real. After the stomach bug I cut caffeine out of my daily routine and I have noticed a difference but goodness could I have used a coffee yesterday.
At this point I am nearly convinced that I need a holiday somewhere warm and just with no responsibilities.

Oh no! I am sure you deserve that holiday. Would a bread-making session with Small One at least supply warmth and the ability to hit dough if frustrated?

I hope VSO is soon back out again - his parents must be so glad they have you to call on, exhausting though it is. And I hope you're soon over the cold. Fluid, vitamins, rest... fluids and vitamins, anyway.

  • If you can afford a holiday then absolutely book it asap, you have been a trooper caring for your Dad and dealing with family all that time, you're only six months into the grieving process, you're still being a trooper helping family, and in the midst of all the mental and physical exhaustion you still keep putting effort in with trying to progress jobs and your home. My gosh my dear, you really bloody deserve a break x

Hope littlest recovers quickly. Sounds worrying and exhausting for all concerned

  • Very Small One turned out to have covid. Luckily he is a robust child (let's just say I won't be able to call him Very Small One much longer) and is back at home.
I was scheduled to go on a visit to potential workplace on Monday but had second thoughts about going as at that point we didn't know what VSO had. So doubly glad that I did cancel rather than going into a care home potentially having covid.
I was going to wait and see if I was going to be starting work in December, I have three assessment appointments taking me up to the 8th so maybe I'll book something after that?
I don't really know, part of me thinks it would be better to plan something and enjoy the anticipation.
  • Glad VSO is okay.

When do you feel you'd most benefit from a break? It can be harder to get time away from work/being used to income than telling a workplace the date you can start as you already have something booked..
Would you prefer a break in the run up to Christmas as you could do with one as soon as possible, or over Christmas if you want to get away and be by yourself for your first Christmas without your Dad, or in Jan/Feb when it's grim and you need something nice, or in spring when it's a bit lighter and warmer and you'll feel more inclined to do things and enjoy them/more things will be open or accessible?
  • I'm definitely not a do things on holiday person 🤣🤣🤣
My thought was somewhere warm where people bring me all my food. Sister Act suggested Jamaica but think that might be out budget wise.
My friend has got her flat on the market but no viewings booked as yet . So am welcome to stay there as well.
Currently I am VSO's bed as he has had jabs this morning.
I've finished one productivity book, in the middle of another and planning to go to the library today as they have one in stock for me.
I also completely failed to account for Christmas and Christmas travel so that is on the mind.
Job visit rescheduled for Monday. Hopefully that can go ahead

Really please VSO is doing better. Scary times for all concerned.

How about somewhere in the Med? You can get reasonably warm there compared to Britain, and the food is of course lovely (when I say 'food' I'm thinking of chocolate ice cream).

Good to hear VSO has been well enough for jabs.

All the best for the job visit!

  • Thanks both.
I tested positive for the lurgy- that is what I get for indulging my curiosity. Although I had considered getting the 4th vaccine in Dublin and I won't be eligible for that now so I have saved myself that.
Am so fatigued today that I went to bed at 4 o'clock and would have quite happily gone to sleep. I did not. Instead I ended up video calling Teacup so that I could find a table for her 🤦‍♀️
I did a quick recce and apparently Tenerife and Lanzarote have reasonable temperatures in winter. Am open to suggestions though as it will likely take me forever to make a decision.
