What’s wrong with the armchair? I thought that would be part of your liveable room?
Great work on making some clear space!1 -
Wow, you've worked hard! Is any of it going back, or are you putting up a 'please help yourself' sign as they do in America?
I like your blue walls, by the way.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

In my head, today was going to go as follows: public transport would convey me to Pitmedden Gardens. I would then enjoy pleasant hours sketching the new wildlife planting before a leisurely journey home again.
In reality, I left the planning in the lap of the Gods and they were in a capricious mood. I really wanted to get the train and had a vague notion that I could do so and get a local bus to the Gardens. The country bus live schedule said one thing, reality said another and so I was left with either a 3 hour wait or Other Options.
Other Options meant going to M and S for tea and pastry where I decided to get a car club car. Expensive but seemed like a good idea at the time.
You know one of those days where everything is just vaguely not what you want it to be?
To cut a long story short, there was nowhere pleasantly comfortable to sit in the gardens, it was too hot and I realised that somewhere along the line I had lost my credit card. Driving was too hard as I kept thinking that Dad should be in the seat beside me. And he wasn't.
The car was returned early and I retraced my steps but no sign of the card. I have cancelled it and asked for a new one.
I wound up doing a quick mystery shop in M and S and then bought some food and red wine to eat my feelings. A comfort stop in the library and I went home to watch more the Art of the Garden.
That chair was a cast off after one of my sister's house moves and quite frankly, I never liked it. It was comfortable until the back mechanism went funny and kept sending me right back up again.
I'm kinda hoping I'll go back tomorrow and people will have taken stuff. It's gonna be a right pain taking all of it to the tip.
The blue walls harken back to when I was a teenager and painted my entire bedroom, including the ceiling, midnight blue. That particular room has been green, grey, white and that dark blue. It used to have fitted wardrobes that were 28 inches deep and that hid a muddled wall and non matching skirting board. The blue does not cover the mess.
In the redesign I will likely have the whole flat in clay plaster, all the same shade.
When I was clearing I treated myself to removing one of the hallway doors which has bugged me for years. It made the hall feel so poky. I feel like the key to making it enjoyable is to remove the things that have been bugging me the most even if it maybe doesn't make sense from a project management perspective.

Even on a not-as-planned day, you're finding productive things to do. The feeling of space created by removing a door will no doubt help: it sounds as though it needed to go.

Have you thought about hiring a skip? Possibly cheaper than a house clearance film and you've managed to get the stuff outside1
-
A while back I costed out various different rubbish clearance options. I don't know what it's like in other places but up here skips were quite dear. The permit just to put them on public land is £40 which is the cost of a car for the day.
I think the cheapest worked out as man and a van. But it does get expensive with such a large amount to go unless I do it myself.

I'm off to the flat today having been to asda to get cleaning supplies. So apparently I'm cleaning today.
It was a slow start to the day and I don't feel especially motivated. Although I have been thinking it would be nice to live in my own flat again, the rhythms of day to day life in my sister's are fine but they're not my rhythms.2 -
I was wondering if you could paint all of the walls white then start adding your own painted designs/pictures on - a bit like a super big canvas. That's just an example, you could start with any colour base layer.1
