There are times when thrift doesn't pay. I bought a pack of 9 cupcakes and then hid them from the nephew, not realising that there was a gap. So they fell down the back of a chest of drawers and I have been on a chair with a telescopic pole to retrieve them. Only to find the cat running away from the ones I had left on the bed. Oi vey.
I have also hit myself in the face with a falling coatstand, cracked my elbow and acquired numerous small bruises from the Small One.
Two months has flown by. I was preoccupied a bit with the small one so I wasn't dwelling on any of the nastier thoughts that have plagued me. There are some nice photos of Dad in my sister's living room to smile at. I'm sat down now having a glass of red wine in his honour. I might watch something welsh. Perhaps not the Story of Wales as that is a bit too fresh.
I'm calling the garden I have planned The Memory Garden. It will have elements like daffodils (after the poem which Dad could recite word for word), welsh slate and a red, white and green part.2 -
Ouch to the coat stand etc., and sorry about the cakes. I like the Welsh-inspired Memory Garden. I have a soft spot for Welsh slate, as it was the original roof of the house where I grew up, and later on holiday I picked up off cuts from a mining area as souvenirs of some lovely holidays. I still have one as a doorstop, with a drill hole through it.
Now I have Land of My Fathers going through my head. Nobody does melody like the Welsh.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Good to remember him.
Ouch to the bumps and bruises and fallen cupcakes. Sounds frustrating as well as painful.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

What about learning his favourite poem by heart too?
I like the idea of a Welsh inspired garden for your father

I have returned in one piece from an outing with the Small One, who fell asleep rather adorably on the bus home. Sadly he did not stay asleep once he was off the bus and may have tried to wangle walking time from his dad who was having none of it.
I am not yet confident in my Aunting abilities; I feel a book or two may be in order before I find myself picking up Bad Habits. I'm not going to lie, this may be heavily motivated by the need to get a breakfast roll/tea before I can function on a Saturday outing. The child went into Edinburgh Woollen Mill and Lakeland but could he be persuaded to go to cafe nero?!?!?
I can recite Daffodils, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau and The Entertainer by Max Boyce backwards, forwards and upside down. In my red wine and cupcakes mood last night I sang HWFN and watched a lovely video of Welsh scenery filmed by a drone. Had a bit of a cry and imagined Dad as a wee boy cycling over the aqueduct without a care in the world. A trip to Wales is in the future, I hope to go to Blaenau Ffestiniog where they have a gravity operated railway and the slate museum.
I don't know if the Memory Garden is its final name or a design principle lol. There will be some of my own memories like the ornamental brassicas I saw on my 30th trip to New York. I also want to have a children's garden with a water feature.
I should probably stop waffling now and get on with something while the Small One is silent.3 -

I can't even imagine starting on my digital files - especially if that includes photos...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Bribery works for me. It is a poor life lesson, but I leave those for the parents. Start small as they negotiate upwards...If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

It's Monday today, start of the week. Small One did not want to go to nursery, methinks Auntie has been a little too wild in her activity choices as now he wants to jump on the bed every morning. I am going to have to go Paleo again just to save my knees.
The aim for today is to go to the flat and do... Something. I bought a replacement power saw yesterday so the Thicket can be tamed weather permitting. I'm a bit flat today as Small One suffered from revenge of dairy yesterday (sadly looks like he has inherited the family digestive system) and was not at all himself. He revived a bit when I brought him a toy bus from Asda but it was horrible to see him in so much pain.
I'm going to try and think out loud here to get my day into some sort of shape.
morning relax/Coffee/library book/flat clearing/make nephew a bus route. I got Now TV for a month so I can watch Art of the Garden

My photos are mostly in google photos so they organise themselves but I found a whole bunch in dropbox. Just as I was coming to the end of my enthusiasm 🤦♀️
